Chapter 8 - Margaret’s House

The search of Margaret’s house produced more evidence than the attic.
Not because there was a dungeon.
There wasn’t.
It was a wealthy suburban home with floral wallpaper, polished furniture, and framed family photographs.
Normal houses can contain abnormal behavior.
Investigators recovered:
Ryan’s filming equipment.
Payment records.
Account credentials.
Copies of forced consent scripts.
My main phone.
My work laptop.
A folder labeled EMILY MEDICAL.
Inside were printouts of appointment summaries and notes Margaret had added herself.
Combative.
Noncompliant.
Confused.
Refuses food.
Paranoid.
Those were not doctor diagnoses.
Margaret’s descriptions.
But Ryan had repeated them during telehealth calls.
Investigators also found draft emails to my obstetric practice.
One claimed:
Emily requests no direct calls because screens worsen her migraines.
I had never requested that.
Another:
Ryan is authorized to discuss all care.
I had signed a general health-information authorization early in pregnancy.
Not unlimited decision-making.
Margaret and Ryan stretched it.
They did not legally become guardians.
No court declared me incompetent.
That fact mattered.
Then the attic deadbolt.
Hardware showed regular use.
Fingerprints mattered less than household control.
Ryan and Margaret both admitted locking.
They simply disputed purpose.
Then Margaret’s business account.
M Carter Wellness Media LLC.
She opened it nine months before my pregnancy.
It received channel payouts.
Why her account?
Ryan’s previous creator account had been suspended for policy violations after complaints involving a different series.
Not abuse of another woman, exactly.
Old videos showed staged public pranks and humiliation of friends without sufficient consent. Complaints.
He moved monetization through Margaret.
She knew channel business.
Not merely mother helping son.
Her financial participation became federal interest.
Gross payouts.
Transfers to Ryan.
Equipment charges.
Advertising.
Margaret used some to pay home-equity loan.
Ryan used some for personal debt and electronics.
That tied them together.

Margaret could no longer say she was only “providing care.”
She was paid.
