Chapter 23 - Ryan’s Letter

Nine years after escape, Ryan sent one letter through court-approved attorney channel.
I could decline.
I read.
Emily,
I have spent years trying to decide when the channel stopped being entertainment and became abuse.
I wanted to stop there.
Then continued.
The honest answer is that question lets me pretend there was a safe version after you withdrew consent. There wasn’t.
I kept filming because attention made me feel important.
I kept you dependent because your refusal felt like humiliation to me.
I let Mom control medical care because it made you easier for me to control too.
I told myself you were sick enough that my decisions counted more.
They didn’t.
I am sorry.
No request for reconciliation.
No request for money.
Then:
I do not expect contact with Grace. If she ever asks, tell her I was responsible for what I did and she was never reason.
That mattered.
I stored the letter.
Not for forgiveness.
May you like
For Grace if she wanted as adult.
I did not reply.
