Chapter 21 - Teresa’s Consequences

Teresa received thirty-eight months federal incarceration after plea and cooperation with asset recovery.

She was fifty-eight at start.

No prior criminal record.

Her role significant but below Mauricio’s leadership.

She forfeited approximately $214,000 in accounts/assets traceable after legitimate offsets and paid restitution obligations.

She sold house voluntarily to satisfy legal costs and financial judgment? Let's be careful: she owned home with equity. Some could be forfeited if proceeds commingled? Better say she refinanced/sold to meet restitution and fees. Fine.

Before sentencing she looked at me for first time without contempt.

“I hated that you made more than him.”

I said nothing.

“I thought a wife who outshines husband creates disorder.”

Still nothing.

“I taught him that.”

That was closer to truth.

Then:

“I also liked money.”

There.

No mythology.

Greed.

She served about thirty-one months after lawful credits and transitional release rules.

No contact with me afterward.

Good.
