Chapter 7 - Evelyn’s Messages

Evelyn’s tablet held months of messages with Julian.
Two months before assault:
JULIAN:
Claire still won’t add me to deed.
EVELYN:
Because Thomas taught her marriage is competition.
JULIAN:
She says house is for baby.
EVELYN:
Then remind her baby needs a father with functioning business.
Later:
JULIAN:
Bank wants both signatures.
EVELYN:
Stop letting her embarrass you.
Three days before:
JULIAN:
Bringing deed Friday.
EVELYN:
Good. I’ll be there.
JULIAN:
If she refuses?
EVELYN:
Then don’t let her walk away until she understands.
No explicit:
Burn her.
Kill her.
Push her.
That mattered.
After incident:
JULIAN:
She told paramedic I pushed.
EVELYN:
She’s in shock.
JULIAN:
Second camera?
EVELYN:
You pulled only one I saw.
Then:
JULIAN:
Need clean kitchen.
EVELYN:
Already wiped pot.
And one line I never forgot:
If baby survives she’ll calm down.
If.
Not when.
If.
Detective Brooks said:
“Emotionally awful. Legally we still separate what it proves.”
May you like
Good.
I wanted truth strong enough not to need exaggeration.
