Chapter 6 - Ana’s Recording

Ana had started recording because she was afraid nobody would believe what happened.

The audio began twelve minutes after Carmen entered the suite.

Carmen:

“Put the pen in her hand.”

Sofia crying.

“No.”

Rosa:

“Stop making this worse.”

Then a slap.

Then Sofia:

“My father gave me that home.”

Carmen laughed.

“Your father gave you a bargaining chip.”

Then:

“You’re married now. What belongs to you belongs to Javier.”

Sofia:

“No.”

Another impact.

Marisol:

“Carmen, stop.”

Pilar:

“She needs to learn.”

Then Javier’s voice outside the door.

Muffled.

“Mom?”

Carmen opened.

“What?”

“Keep it down.”

Sofia screamed:

“Javier!”

Then his voice.

Clearer.

“Just sign it, Sofia.”

Sofia:

“Help me!”

Silence.

Then Javier:

“Mom, just don’t hit her face too much. People will notice tomorrow.”

The recording changed everything.

Not merely him standing outside.

He knew.

Then Carmen:

“Go downstairs. We’ll fix your wife.”

Door closes.

Sofia sobbing.

Then Jessica entered.

Her voice:

“What’s taking so long?”

Carmen:

“She thinks the condo is still hers.”

Jessica:

“It’ll be the family’s by Monday.”

There.

Financial motive.

Then Sofia:

“You’re insane.”

Jessica:

“You can’t handle marriage if one signature makes you hysterical.”

Then something clinked.

Glass.

Carmen:

“Drink.”

Sofia:

“No.”

Carmen:

“Jessica.”

Jessica:

“What?”

Carmen lowered her voice.

“Get what Marisol brought.”

Marisol shouted:

“No.”

Then movement.

Marisol:

“That is not for this. Give it back.”

Jessica:

“She needs to calm down.”

Marisol:

“You inject her with that and I call 911.”

Silence.

Then Carmen:

“You call anyone and you’re done with this family.”

Marisol:

“I don’t care.”

This was important.

They had considered sedation.

Marisol stopped it.

Then Ana’s voice, very soft:

“Sofia.”

Sofia:

“What?”

“Bathroom.”

The recording ended shortly after.

Ana had hidden phone beneath a decorative towel.

Then helped Sofia escape.

Ana was not innocent.

She entered room.

She stayed for several minutes.

She did not call immediately.

But she became the reason Sofia got out.

Prosecutors would consider that.

Then Jessica.

The audio placed her holding the vial.

Her attorney claimed:

“She never intended injection.”

Maybe.

But why possess it?

Then police found a syringe in Carmen’s handbag.

Unused.

Sealed.

Carmen said she carried it for diabetes medication.

She was not diabetic.

The planning looked darker.

Then a second file on Ana’s phone.

A family group chat.

Created:

BRIDE TALK.

Date:

Six weeks before wedding.

Members:

Carmen.

Rosa.

Pilar.

Daniela.

Teresa.

Jessica.

Ana.

Marisol added only wedding day.

Messages:

CARMEN:

SHE SIGNS BEFORE MORNING.

ROSA:

What if she refuses?

CARMEN:

Then we remind her what family means.

ANA:

Does Javier know?

CARMEN:

He arranged the room.

Sofia read that twice.

Javier arranged the room.

Then:

JAVIER had booked honeymoon suite with adjoining dressing area and secondary service corridor.

Not romantic coincidence.

Access.

Isolation.

Escape routes for them.

Then another message from Javier directly to Carmen:

DO IT AFTER 1. MOST GUESTS WILL BE GONE.

No ambiguity.

May you like

The attack was not Carmen acting alone.

Javier helped schedule it.
