Chapter 17 - Parker Hospitality Without Vanessa

Company almost collapsed emotionally, not financially.
Vanessa had handled too much.
Passwords.
Vendor history.
Tax calendars.
Processes lived in her head.
Removing one person exposed bad governance.
Board hired CFO.
Documented roles.
Dual approvals.
Whistleblower policy.
Independent audits.
Family no longer exempt.
Daniel returned after leave as operations executive, not finance.
Eventually CEO? Not yet.
He had to earn board confidence.
He did.
Slowly.
He accepted outside boss for years.
Humbling.
Healthy.
At a company meeting, somebody said:
“Vanessa always knew where everything was.”
Daniel answered:
“That was part of the problem.”
Good.
Family system changed because crisis exposed single-point dependence.
No glorifying harm.

Harm wasn’t necessary.
But lesson used.
