Five years after my thirty eighth birthday, Rachel scheduled what she called a “closure audit.”
I laughed.
“That sounds like something you invented.”
“I did.”
We sat in conference room with final binder.
Divorce decree.
Property settlement.
Trust confirmation.
Criminal case disposition.
Michelle civil settlement.
Hera restitution satisfaction.
Probation completion.
No liens.
No outstanding reimbursement claims.
No open discovery.
No hidden marital account identified after final disclosure.
No taxes unresolved.
No legal fees owed between parties.
The $18,000:
Fully accounted.
$6,350 to Lana related obligations.
$7,000 transferred to Hera’s separate account, largely used for consultant and litigation planning.
$3,000 cash returned to Hera per Michelle’s sworn statement and corroborating ATM timing/messages.
$1,650 directly to Keller & Boone.
Wait that double counts because 7k included consultant? Earlier we said 1.65 direct + 5.85 of 7k to consultant = 7.5 total, plus 3k cash. Let's state final:

She smiled.

“It was dramatic.”

I laughed.
She pushed binder.
“Keep five years then archive as advised.”
“I never want to look at it.”
“Good sign.”
I took home.
Placed in fireproof cabinet beside trust papers.
Not under pillow.
Not on kitchen table.
