Chapter 24 - Chloe Rebuilt Something Smaller

Chloe did not reopen a large studio.
At first she designed nothing.
Even choosing fonts made her anxious because Damian had turned design into restaurant labor.
Six months later, a former client asked for a simple menu redesign.
She said no.
Then changed mind.
Worked four hours.
Stopped.
Got paid.
A real invoice.
A real deposit into her own account.
She cried when payment arrived.
“Why?”
“Because it’s mine.”
That was recovery.
Not motivational speeches.
Ownership of ordinary things.
She eventually reopened as Miller Studio again.
One employee.
Then two.
No empire.
No viral story.
She refused interviews after court.
Her attorney issued one statement:
Chloe Miller asks that photographs or recordings depicting her abuse not be redistributed. Accountability does not require replaying humiliation.
I loved that sentence.
The white envelope remained evidence through appeal.
Afterward, originals were returned where appropriate and legal copies retained.
Chloe kept none of Damian’s abuse recordings.
She kept one thing.
