Chapter 22 - Gloria Comes Out

Gloria was released when Lizzy was fourteen.

Supervised.

No contact order still active through family court protections and probation terms initially.

She requested modification after supervision.

Judge denied direct contact because no relationship, history, Lizzy’s objection.

Gloria sent letters to Ian.

He returned unopened.

One letter reached me through her attorney.

I read because curious.

Natalie,

I thought I was preserving family after Melissa died and Ian fell apart. I began believing money compensated us for burden. Then I began believing Lizzy’s needs were manipulation. Once you see child that way, every cruelty becomes “discipline.”

That was closest she came to insight.

Then:

I forged your name because bank would not give me what I thought I deserved.

Direct.

No excuse.

I kept letter.

Did not show Lizzy until adulthood.

Gloria moved to assisted apartment later.

Never regained guardianship of anyone.

No hidden second family.

No secret millions.

No revenge attempt.

Just woman who lost authority she had abused.
