That mattered.

Then I asked archive officer:
“Can I destroy my personal copy of old declassified notes?”
Yes, with retention guidance.
I shredded.
No green notebook.
No mystery.
Then I found the twenty dollar bill.

I laughed.

I tipped.

Then old green jacket long donated.

Samuel’s daughter asked:

“Yes.”
“What’s general?”
“Someone who tells lots of soldiers what to do.”

“He tried.”
She laughed.
Then:
“Did helicopters save you?”
Children hear stories.
I said:
“No.”
“What saved you?”
I thought.
“Calling for help.”
She frowned.
“Boring.”
Yes.
Then:
“And agents doing jobs.”
“More boring.”
“Most safety is boring.”
