Chapter 9 - The Woman Who Authorized the Transfer

The woman in the bank footage left through a private elevator.
Her face was visible for less than three seconds.
It was enough.
Elena knew the slope of her mother’s shoulders and the way she held her left hand close to her body after an old wrist injury.
Aurelia had survived.
Daniel asked the bank to connect them to the account holder.
The representative refused.
Elena requested access as the named beneficiary of the Vale trust.
The line remained silent for nearly a minute.
Then a secure video window opened.
Aurelia appeared inside a dark room.
She was older than the woman Elena buried, but unmistakably alive.
“Elena.”
The sound of her mother saying her name destroyed the control Elena had maintained through pain, humiliation, and financial threats.
“You left me.”
Aurelia closed her eyes.
“Yes.”
“You watched me believe you were dead.”
“Yes.”
“You knew I married into this family.”
“I learned after the wedding.”
“Why did you not contact me?”
“Because Margaret controlled people inside the police, the courts, and the company. Richard’s trust was the only protection I could give you without revealing I survived.”
“You let her hurt me.”
“I did not know what was happening inside the mansion until Lucas’s recordings reached Northstar.”
Lucas looked toward the screen.
“I never sent them.”
Aurelia’s expression sharpened.
“Your phone backed up automatically to the server Richard created.”
The same hidden folder Lucas used to build a case against Elena had alerted the trust.
That was why the family accounts froze when Daniel opened the banking application.
The system recognized abuse against the protected beneficiary.
Daniel stepped closer.
“Why are you transferring two hundred and twelve million dollars?”
“To protect the operating reserves before Margaret’s lenders seize them.”
“Into an account only you control.”
“Temporarily.”
Elena looked at Naomi.
“Can she return the money without board approval?”
“Yes,” Naomi said. “But she can also move it beyond recovery.”
Aurelia heard.
“You should not trust me because I gave birth to you. Trust the documents.”
She displayed the Northstar charter.
The money could be released only through three approvals.
Aurelia.
Elena.
And Richard Whitmore.
Richard was dead.
The artificial executive identity could act in his place for one final transaction.
Once Elena gave birth and the Vale shares activated, Richard’s digital authority would expire.
The funds would then remain locked until a court appointed a replacement trustee.
Aurelia was moving the reserves now because it was the last moment the rescue transfer could occur.
Elena’s contractions came closer.
Dr. Mitchell warned that delivery was imminent.
“You chose this moment,” Elena said.
“I chose the only moment Margaret could not reverse.”
“You could have come to me.”
“I was afraid you would tell Daniel.”
Daniel accepted the accusation behind the words.
“You believed I would protect my family.”
“I believed you might hesitate.”
He looked toward Elena.
“I already hesitated too long.”
Aurelia’s face softened for one second.
“You sound like Richard.”
Daniel did not know whether it was praise.
The hospital doors opened.
Federal agents brought Lucas back into the room after discovering the guardianship order had been voided.
He held up both hands.
“I know how Northstar was compromised.”
Aurelia went still.
“What do you mean?”
Lucas placed a printed transaction chain beside Naomi.
The receiving account had a second hidden beneficiary.
Someone using the initials M.V.
Margaret Vale.
Aurelia’s older sister.
Elena stared at her mother.
“You had a sister?”
Aurelia looked frightened for the first time.
“She died before you were born.”
Lucas shook his head.
“According to the bank, she completed identity verification yesterday.”
The initials did not belong to Margaret Whitmore.
They belonged to another woman connected to Aurelia.
Lucas opened a photograph recovered from his mother’s private safe.
It showed Aurelia standing beside an identical dark haired woman.
Twins.
On the back, Richard had written:
Aurelia controls the shares.
Marina controls the money.
Aurelia whispered her sister’s name.
“Marina.”
Naomi checked the Northstar charter again.
The transfer destination had changed during the video call.
The two hundred and twelve million dollars was no longer moving into Aurelia’s protected account.

It was being redirected to a company owned by Marina Vale.
Continue to the next part: Aurelia reveals her twin sister helped Margaret steal the original company and may have been living inside the Whitmore mansion under another identity.
