Chapter 15 - Jessica Breaks

Jessica testified before Richard’s trial.
Before that, she had to say things out loud.
Not because she suddenly loved me.
Because plea required truthful cooperation.
She described first idea.
“It was mine.”
That surprised.
After ultrasound:
“I said Maya could spare one.”
Richard laughed.
Then said:
“Why not?”
Eleanor said:
“Maybe.”
Daniel said no.
So the seed began with Jessica.
Then Richard turned bitterness into plan.
“He made it sound normal.”
But she wanted to hear.
She admitted.
Then fake paperwork.
Her laptop.
Her drafts.
The nursery.
Nathan.
Then prosecutor asked:
“Did Maya ever tell you she wanted you to raise one triplet?”
“No.”
“Did she ever say she would consider?”
“No.”
“Why prepare?”
Jessica cried.
“Because I thought once he was in my arms she’d see how right it was.”
That sentence.
Possession first.
Consent later.
Then:
“Did you know Richard planned to remove Noah from bassinet?”
“He said he would pick him up and hand him to me.”
“Then what?”
“Ask Maya to sign.”
“What if she refused?”
Jessica looked down.
“We thought Eleanor could calm her.”
“Meaning?”
“Get her medicated.”
“Did you agree to drug Maya secretly?”
“No.”
Evidence supported she objected.
“Did you agree to pressure her while medicated?”
Long silence.
“Yes.”
Then hospital.
When Richard picked Noah, did Jessica think they were leaving?
“No.”
She expected confrontation.
Then she reached toward Caleb because:
“I panicked and thought if Maya held two, she couldn’t stop Richard.”
There.
Active assistance.
Then Daniel.
“Did he agree?”
“At first he listened.”
Then:
“Did he sign papers?”
“No.”
“Did he ask Maya?”
“No.”
“Did he help forge?”
“No.”
“Did he threaten to expose recordings?”
“Yes.”
Then:
“Why did you go anyway?”
Jessica stared at Daniel across courtroom? Perhaps he wasn't there.
“Because I thought once he saw Noah, he’d choose me.”
Again, people as proof.
Then sentencing later.
Jessica’s bitterness no longer looked calculating genius.
It looked untreated grief hardened into entitlement.
Still dangerous.
Then she apologized to me in statement.
“I am sorry I turned your pregnancy into a referendum on my infertility.”
That line.
Good.
Then:
“I am sorry I named your child.”
Then:
“I am sorry I believed wanting him made me deserving.”
No request relationship.
Then Richard called her liar.
“My son’s wife is unstable.”
He had used her until she stopped obeying.
Predictable.
Then Eleanor watched.
Her plea became imminent.
She could continue protecting Richard.
Or tell truth.
She chose truth.
Finally.
Then David asked me:
“Do you want to attend Richard’s trial?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I want to hear what he says when no one in family has to agree.”
Then babies reached three months.
We took first family photo.
No professional.
Timer.
David holding Noah.
Me Caleb.
Grace between pillows.
Everyone crying except Caleb asleep.
Perfect.
I did not send to my parents.
May you like
No guilt.
Continue to the next part: Jessica admits she started the fantasy, but Richard transformed it into a plan by teaching everyone that wanting Maya’s child was the same as having a claim to him.
