Chapter 23 - Glen Came Home Different, Not Fixed
Glen was thirty-seven when released.
He did not ask to move back.
Did not ask for another chance.
Good.
He lived in supervised reentry housing briefly, then rented apartment.
Worked first as operations coordinator for a warehouse firm.
Lower pay.
No access to company funds initially.
He completed probation/supervision.
Paid restitution.
Parenting time with Ariel increased gradually.
At first supervised.
Then daytime unsupervised.
Later alternating weekends once therapist and court agreed.
By then Ariel was seven.
She loved him.
She also knew he had lied.
Children can hold both.
One afternoon after visit she asked:
“Did Daddy love Clara more than you?”
I said:
“That’s a question for Daddy.”
“What do you think?”
“I think adults sometimes make choices that have more to do with what they want in a moment than who they love most.”
“Did he love you?”
“Yes.”
“Then why?”
“Love does not automatically make people honest.”
She thought.
“That's dumb.”
