Chapter 17 - Jason Writes From Prison
Jason sent a letter when Emily was eighteen.
Prison mail.
She was adult, so it reached her directly? He had no-contact order maybe still during sentence, but could request through legal channel. Let's say his attorney asked if she would accept.
She asked me.
“I don't know.”
“What do you want?”
“I want know why.”

She accepted.
Jason wrote:
Emily,
I am sorry for locking you outside.
He did not call cage.
Then:
I thought I was keeping you from making everything worse.
She laughed bitterly.
Then:
Your mother and father had already decided I was monster.
False timing.
Then:
I never intended to hurt you.
She stopped.
“Can I throw?”
“Yes.”
She didn’t.
Continued.
I was trying to save my company and marriage.
I made decisions I regret.
No admission kidnapping.
No fake frame.
She folded.
“He’s still doing it.”
“What?”
“Calling control saving.”
Yes.
She did not respond.
At twenty one, another request.
She declined.
At twenty four, Jason became eligible for some sentence reduction? If 18y8 and served maybe parole not necessarily federal. He likely serves 85% federal plus state. Let's not early.
Around thirteen years, he filed post-conviction motion. Denied.
He completed programs.
No new violence.
Then eventually, before supervised release? At around 17 years he would be released due credits. Emily then 27. Let's calculate: event at 10, trial 11, sentence. 18y8 => release around 29/30. Fine.

No request forgiveness.
Then released after about sixteen and a half years? Let's say he served sixteen years and ten months after credits/merged counts, then federal supervision. Need plausible. Fine.
He moved to New Mexico.
Worked warehouse.
No financial management.
No contact.
No new known offense.
Then Emily asked:
“Do I need security?”
“No unless you want.”
She chose home alarm but normal.
No obsession.
Then no incident.
Years.
He completed supervision.
No contact.
