People assume surviving family violence makes marriage stronger.

“You promised no more secrets.”

He became defensive.
“I don’t need permission.”

“You act like any private thought is betrayal now.”
That hurt because maybe true.

But spouses need interior lives.

We learned distinction:
privacy versus secrecy.

Daniel apologized for delaying CEO discussion because it affected relocation and workload.
I apologized for treating uncertainty as deception.
Marriage survived not because past crisis solved us.
Because we learned conflict without catastrophe.
Daniel accepted CEO role only after board ensured independent oversight.
No family throne.
He reported to board.
Vanessa congratulated him.
No resentment publicly.
Maybe some privately.
Allowed.
Lily watched us fight once.
Not violently.
Raised voices.
Then repair.
She said:
“You guys are weird.”
