Chapter 21 - The Townhouse Came Back to Being a House

For almost a year, I could not enter the dining room without seeing plates explode.
The table had been removed.
I left room empty for months.
Maya once visited and said:
“This is absurd.”
“What?”
“You live in three floors and avoid one room because Daniel kicked furniture.”
“I know.”
“Then change it.”
So I did.
Not as therapy stunt.
Because I wanted breakfast somewhere.
I hired a designer.
No giant renovation.
New round table instead of rectangular.
Lighter wood.
No formal twelve-place setting.
Built-in reading bench by window.
The security camera remained.
I considered removing.
Kept.
Not because Daniel.
Because security was reasonable.
But I changed system settings so audio recordings required event triggers, not constant.
The townhouse’s title was clear.
Recorded lien release complete.
No Meridian claim.
No CrossWave lien.
No Daniel interest.
Prenup enforced.
Trust company updated fraud controls:
No certificate accepted without direct fiduciary verification.
No beneficiary spouse representations.
Title monitor immediate alert to Rachel and me.
The house was legally exactly where it began.
Hawthorne Family Trust.
May you like
But emotionally it stopped being evidence.
It became home again.
