Chapter 14 - Patricia Had Been Managing Daniel’s Anger for Years
Daniel’s former fiancée contacted investigators.
I had never known he had been engaged before.
He told me one serious college relationship.
Not engagement.
Her name was Lauren Pierce.
She saw article about CrossWave investigation and my protective order.
Through attorney, she gave statement.
Daniel had never hit her.
Important.
He had:
Punched walls.
Broken a door.
Blocked exits during arguments.
Taken her keys once.
Threatened to destroy her professional reputation.
Patricia intervened repeatedly.
Not to protect Lauren.
To keep Daniel calm enough that relationship survived.
After one incident, Patricia told Lauren:
“Men with ambition need women who don’t challenge them publicly.”

Lauren left.
Patricia sent:
You will regret throwing away future.
Lauren blocked both.
Why had Daniel hidden engagement?
Because it ended badly.
Not proof of current crime.
Prosecutors used history cautiously, mostly sentencing/domestic case if admissible.
For me, it mattered differently.
