Chapter 11 - Daniel Milford

Garrett had an older cousin named Daniel Milford? Better avoid new confusing names. We can keep family circle small. Perhaps Cindy's sister Donna. Need next twist: Cindy may have hidden more money through retirement account? Could reveal Sally's own retirement account? Let's use not new complex.

The civil forensic accountant found another transfer.

Not from house fund.

From Sally’s individual investment account.

$63,000.

When?

Two weeks before eviction.

Sally had forgotten account existed? She had brokerage through employer stock plan.

Cindy had no direct access.

But Garrett did.

Or rather shared laptop saved credentials.

A withdrawal was requested.

Transferred to joint checking.

Then into Cindy’s account.

Authorization originated from home IP.

Sally stared.

“Garrett?”

He went white.

“I didn’t do that.”

Could Cindy access?

She had key to apartment.

Used their computer often?

Yes.

But the brokerage required text verification to Sally’s phone.

How bypassed?

Phone carrier records.

A SIM replacement had been issued at a retail store.

Identity used:

Sally.

ID scan:

A photocopy.

Authorized representative:

Cindy Milford.

How?

Cindy had been listed years earlier as emergency contact on family phone plan.

Retail employee accepted.

Cindy temporarily activated Sally’s number on another device for thirty minutes.

Reset account.

Then restored SIM.

Sally remembered losing service briefly.

Cindy stole $63,000 before the final $420,000.

That was what Sally discovered.

She saw transfer from investment account into joint checking, then $18,000 moved to Cindy.

She confronted.

Cindy panicked.

The affair photograph became immediate solution.

Get Sally out before she traced all.

Now total misappropriation:

$483,000.

Then what happened to the extra $63,000?

$18,000 to Cindy before eviction.

Remaining $45,000 sat in joint account and became part of the $420,000 total? Wait double counting. If 63 transferred into joint and 45 remained, then final balance included it. So actual separate theft maybe only 18k and 45 merged. Better total source of $420 includes $45k from Sally investment; $18k already taken earlier. So total Cindy took = 438k. Let's state.

The $420,000 balance was itself partly funded by $45,000 Cindy had already stolen from Sally’s individual account.

So Sally’s true loss was at least $438,000, not $483k.

Then another issue:

Cindy had paid a private investigator to follow Sally after she left.

Not because custody.

To find evidence of Leland affair.

None.

Reports repeatedly said:

Subject resides transitional housing.

Subject attends hospital.

Subject travels with infant.

No male cohabitant.

Cindy had proof Sally was not with Leland.

She still told Garrett she was.

The investigator invoices sat in preschool books.

Garrett read one.

SUBJECT APPEARS TO BE CARING FOR NEWBORN FEMALE ALONE.

Date Lily was two months.

Cindy knew Sally was alone with his daughter.

She never told him.

This was not one lie made in panic.

It was maintained deliberately.
