Chapter 4 - THE MISTRESS RICHARD LEFT ON THE STEPS
Vanessa spent her first night in custody expecting Richard’s attorneys to arrive.
None did.
By morning, she learned he had released a statement through counsel.
Mr. Harrington did not witness any intentional assault and had no prior knowledge that Ms. Kensington would confront his wife.
Vanessa read the statement twice.
“He stood beside me.”
Her attorney advised silence.
Vanessa ignored her.
“He told me to stop Khloe from filing those papers.”
“Do not speak without an agreement.”
“He promised he would protect me.”
Her attorney looked at her.
“He is protecting himself.”
Detective Monroe entered only after Vanessa requested a formal interview with counsel present.
Vanessa admitted the affair.
She admitted helping create shell companies.
She admitted believing Richard would divorce Khloe before the baby arrived.
She claimed she did not intend to make Khloe fall.
“I wanted the folder.”
“You used both hands,” Monroe said.
“She pulled away.”
“The footage shows Khloe stepping backward before you touched her.”
Vanessa’s breathing quickened.
“Richard told me she was trying to steal everything.”
“Everything belonged to whom?”
“To us.”
“Legally?”
Vanessa looked down.
Richard had promised her a penthouse, a company position, and control of several developments.
He had also told her Khloe was emotionally unstable and would fabricate abuse to gain leverage.
Vanessa believed him because believing him made the affair easier to justify.
Then Monroe played Richard’s public statement.
Vanessa’s face changed.
“He knew I was going to confront her.”
“How?”
“He sent me her courthouse arrival time.”
“Why?”
“He said she carried the account list.”
“Did he tell you to take it?”
“Yes.”
“Did he tell you to push her?”
“No.”
That answer mattered.
The evidence supported conspiracy to obtain or destroy documents and possibly obstruct the financial case.
It did not yet prove Richard ordered the physical shove.
Vanessa surrendered her phone.
Messages showed Richard directing her to meet Khloe outside.
RICHARD: DO NOT LET HER TAKE THE FOLDER INTO COURT.
VANESSA: WHAT IF SHE MAKES A SCENE?
RICHARD: THEN MAKE HER LOOK UNSTABLE.
Another message arrived seconds before the confrontation.
RICHARD: GET IT DONE.
Vanessa insisted it meant retrieve the documents.
Prosecutors would later argue context showed pressure and reckless indifference, but they did not pretend the phrase alone was an order to attack.
Richard also asked Vanessa to delete messages after the fall.
RICHARD: SAY SHE SLIPPED.
VANESSA: YOU SAW ME TOUCH HER.
RICHARD: DELETE THIS THREAD.
That message became evidence of attempted obstruction.
Harrison did not negotiate Vanessa’s cooperation personally.
He was Khloe’s brother and attorney. Prosecutors handled criminal decisions independently.
Harrison focused on protecting Khloe, Grace, and the financial record.
Richard’s company board requested an emergency meeting.
He arrived expecting support.
Instead, independent directors confronted him with the frozen transfers, undisclosed conflicts, and payments to Vanessa’s design company.
Richard claimed Harrison was weaponizing family court to seize a profitable business.
The directors appointed outside counsel and placed Richard on leave.
He still owned shares.
He did not control daily operations.
The company did not collapse.
Workers continued receiving wages.
Projects continued under independent supervision.
Richard left the meeting through a private exit.
Reporters surrounded him.
“Did you order Vanessa to confront your wife?”
“Did you watch Khloe fall?”
“Why did you not help her?”
Richard kept walking.
Then one reporter asked:
“Were you more concerned about your wife or the financial folder?”
Richard stopped.
