Chapter 20 - The Money Comes Back

Scott’s restitution payments continued after release.
He served less than full calendar sentence under applicable credit and transition rules, then entered supervision.
We were notified before release.
Mom tightened safety plan.
School was no longer relevant because I was older.
Our address unchanged.
Protection order remained through my minority and additional conditions governed contact.
Scott did not violate.
Good.
Financial restitution reached completion when I was seventeen after:
Refunds.
Frozen funds.
Scott’s payments.
A small civil settlement from joint property.
My education account balance exceeded its original pre theft level because of later family contributions and investment growth.
No jackpot.
Enough for college.
I chose a state university.
Mom said:
“You could go private.”
“I could also not spend eighty thousand a year.”
She cried.
“Why?”
“My son is financially responsible.”
“Stop.”
The money was not revenge.
It returned to purpose.
Education.
I studied computer science.
