Chapter 12 - Sixty Days
The sixty days ended in March.
Snow had begun melting.
Brian and Brenda did not leave.
Their temporary stay from civil court expired after judge rejected preliminary claim of present ownership, leaving them free to pursue damages/equity claim later but not to remain indefinitely.
Naomi filed possession action.
Brian’s attorney negotiated.
He wanted ninety additional days.
“No,” I said.
Thirty?
“No.”
Fourteen with written move-out and no damage?
Naomi looked at me.
“That is reasonable.”
I agreed.
Why not make sheriff remove them?
Because possession mattered more than theater.
They signed.
Fourteen days.
Professional movers.
Property condition photographed.
Escrow for damage.
No contact with me.
On move-out day, I stayed at motel.
Naomi and property manager supervised.
Brenda tried taking dining chandelier.
Manager stopped.
Receipt showed Frank paid fixture.
She left it.
Brian took outdoor grill.
He bought.
Fine.
They took furniture.
Most theirs.
The house emptied.
Then property manager found something behind garage cabinet.
A box of my belongings.
Marie’s jewelry case.
Old family photos.
My military? Frank not military. Plant retirement plaque.
My father’s watch.
Things missing from shed.
I thought I had lost them in move.
Brenda had packed them away.
Why?
She later claimed “decluttering.”
I stopped asking motives for every cruelty.
