Chapter 8 - Fernanda Knew

Fernanda’s lawyer requested a meeting with prosecutors.

Not me.

I was told afterward.

She wanted to cooperate in financial investigation while defending allergy charge.

Her position:

I deliberately sprayed Valeria.

I did not intend life-threatening reaction.

I believed it would cause rash/swelling.

Dad told me Valeria had agreed to guarantee SUV.

Mom handled paperwork.

I impersonated Valeria on one business video call because Dad said Valeria had already consented and lender needed “identity confirmation.”

I knew that was wrong.

That last sentence mattered.

Then her phone.

Search history.

Messages to friends.

Two days before wedding:

FERNANDA:

She thinks because she’s marrying Navarro she can look down on us.

FRIEND:

Don’t make scene.

FERNANDA:

I bought something that’ll ruin her makeup.

FRIEND:

What?

FERNANDA:

That almond spray she freaks out about.

FRIEND:

Isn’t she allergic?

FERNANDA:

She says she is. Everything is drama.

Then:

FRIEND:

Don’t.

Fernanda:

Relax. I’m not killing her.

She knew.

Then search:

Can almond skin contact cause anaphylaxis.

She opened medical site saying severe allergy can cause systemic reactions and emergency.

Then bought anyway.

Her defense argued reading warning did not equal intent to cause severe harm.

True legal nuance.

But it proved awareness of risk.

Then after spray:

FERNANDA TO FRIEND:

She used epipen.

Friend:

CALL AMBULANCE.

Fernanda:

Alejandro did.

Friend:

STAY THERE.

Fernanda:

Dad says we leave.

There.

She followed father.

Then parking lot search:

Can epipen fail.

That hurt.

She later told prosecutors:

“I wanted to go back. Dad said if I did, Alejandro would have me arrested.”

Was that why?

Maybe.

But she could have called.

She didn't.

Then the SUV.

She claimed Roberto said Valeria signed guarantee.

What did she know?

A message:

FERNANDA:

Why does lender need me to pretend be Vale if she signed?

ROBERTO:

Because bank bureaucracy. She is in meeting.

FERNANDA:

This is stupid.

ROBERTO:

Two minutes and done.

She knew identity impersonation.

Could she believe underlying consent?

Possible.

Then later:

FERNANDA:

If Vale finds out she’ll kill us.

That contradicted innocence.

ROBERTO:

She won’t.

So she knew hidden.

Then why resent Valeria?

Because Roberto told her Valeria refused to help despite wealth.

Fernanda had accepted benefits while believing sister selfish.

She never asked me.

That was her choice.

Then police interviewed friend who received almond texts.

She preserved.

No loyalty cover.

She said:

“I told her not to.”

Good.

Then prosecutor offered no quick plea yet.

Valeria’s medical outcome mattered.

I recovered without lasting respiratory injury.

One night ICU observation? I was admitted two nights due biphasic reaction risk. No permanent.

Serious risk but not permanent harm.

This would affect sentencing.

Then psychological evaluation? Not necessary.

Fernanda had no prior record.

She worked inconsistently in social media marketing.

No history violence.

That mattered.

Then she sent apology request through lawyer.

I refused.

Not yet.

Then family smear began online.

A cousin posted:

PRIVATE FAMILY DISPUTE DESTROYING THREE LIVES.

No names, but obvious.

Comments.

Some said rich husband manipulating bride.

Some said sister prank went wrong.

I hated.

Alejandro’s PR team offered statement.

I said no.

My marriage was not corporate crisis.

Then someone leaked that Alejandro was wealthy.

People invented:

He bought police.

He pressured hospital.

No.

The hospital documented independently.

Prosecutors public.

Then Roberto’s lawyer gave interview? Better no actual public details maybe family gossip.

I stopped reading.

Then wedding vendor refunds.

Some deposits nonrefundable.

Alejandro said:

“Forget.”

I did not.

I negotiated.

The florist refunded partly.

Caterer donated unused food.

Photographer returned half.

Why does this matter?

Because my life was not only crime.

There was a canceled wedding to administrate.

I had been legally married at noon.

At 5, no ceremony.

People asked whether we would reschedule.

I could not think.

Every white flower made me sick.

Alejandro said:

“We never have to.”

Good.

Then he moved into guest room for a week because I could not sleep when someone touched me unexpectedly.

He did not interpret as rejection.

One night I woke with throat tight.

No allergy.

Panic.

He sat on floor near bed.

“Want me close?”

“No.”

“Okay.”

Then:

“Do you regret marrying me?”

I looked.

“No.”

“Do you want annulment?”

“No.”

He nodded.

That was all.

He did not ask:

Are you sure?

I had enough people questioning my no.

Then Fernanda’s attorney sent formal acceptance of responsibility for deliberate spray.

Prosecutors prepared plea offer.

But before it finalized, investigators found one more video.

The cosmetics store camera.

Fernanda asked sales clerk:

“Which one has real almond, not fake scent?”

The clerk pointed.

“Why?”

Fernanda laughed.

May you like

“My sister hates it.”

That one sentence destroyed the idea she grabbed random perfume.
