Chapter 12 - The Smear Campaign

The first article used no names.

WEALTHY WEDDING DISPUTE TURNS CRIMINAL.

Then a gossip account connected dots.

Alejandro Navarro.

Valeria Hernández.

Luxury SUV.

Hospital.

Within a day, strangers decided.

I was spoiled rich bride.

Fernanda was jealous sister.

Alejandro was controlling oligarch.

Roberto was traditional father.

Patricia victim.

Nothing accurate enough.

Then one former schoolmate posted:

Valeria always thought she was better.

I almost replied.

Alejandro took phone.

Then immediately handed it back.

“Sorry.”

That small correction mattered.

I deleted app myself.

Then my employer.

They offered leave.

I returned part time.

My boss, Cecilia Rojas, said:

“If anyone contacts office, legal handles.”

Good.

No gossip questions.

Then Patricia went on family offensive.

Not media.

Relatives.

She said Alejandro isolated me.

The irony.

She had read my email secretly, forged documents, thrown away evidence.

Still she said:

“He controls her.”

Why?

Because I stopped answering Patricia.

Boundaries look like control to people who benefited from access.

Then one cousin sent screenshot.

PATRICIA:

Before Alejandro she never treated us like criminals.

I replied to cousin:

Before Alejandro I did not know they were forging me.

Then stopped.

Then a wedding guest leaked a short phone video showing Fernanda spraying.

No collapse.

Just spray then chaos.

It spread.

Now public sympathy shifted hard.

I hated that too.

People wrote:

Monster sister.

Lock her forever.

Attempted murder.

Not proven.

I asked Alejandro’s team not to amplify.

He agreed.

Then Fernanda’s lawyer asked court for protective order against harassment.

Reasonable.

No one deserved threats.

The irony did not change.

Then Roberto’s company staff.

Some were angry at me.

Their jobs uncertain.

One anonymous message:

Hope you're happy when forty families starve.

I cried.

Then interim manager issued factual internal memo:

The company’s financial difficulties predated current dispute and restructuring was underway. Employees should not contact parties.

That helped.

Then company plan.

Sell unused warehouse.

Reduce expansion unit.

Renegotiate debt.

Keep core service.

Thirty-six of forty-two jobs retained.

Six layoffs with severance.

Painful.

Not mass collapse.

The forged guarantee had delayed necessary restructuring.

If anything, Roberto’s choices made eventual cuts worse.

Then lenders.

Second guarantee removed.

Third after forensic analysis.

Banco Metropolitano still investigating.

My credit report slowly corrected.

The SUV finance entry disappeared.

I took screenshot.

Not celebration.

Evidence.

Then old 150,000 family loan.

Hernández company acknowledged legitimate debt to me from apartment proceeds.

It was time-bar? Maybe company records showed payable still carried? Great. It had remained as shareholder-related payable? I wasn't shareholder. It showed "family loan." They offered repay through restructuring at 60 percent due creditor compromise.

I could demand full separately.

I accepted 120,000 settlement? But user likes accountability. Let's say company recognized full 150k, paid over 12 months as ordinary creditor because documented. Good.

Then Patricia’s email intrusion.

Prosecutors charged unauthorized access/identity misuse under applicable law? Avoid exact. She faced criminal counts tied to unauthorized access, false documents, obstruction.

Her lawyer said she was “a mother managing family affairs.”

The prosecutor responded in hearing:

“Parenthood is not authorization to impersonate an adult daughter.”

That line reached me.

I wrote down.

Then hospital assault.

Roberto offered guilty plea to simple assault if financial cases separated.

Prosecutors accepted? Maybe later, but his witness pressure made more.

He admitted striking me.

No trial needed on that if plea.

But source video line strong. We can make he pleads eventually after hearing recording. Fine.

Then my recovery.

Allergy specialist confirmed sensitivity remained severe.

No new chronic damage.

I carried two epinephrine injectors afterward.

At first I checked labels obsessively.

Alejandro did too.

Then I told him stop reading my food before me.

He laughed.

“Control again?”

“Tiny.”

He handed menu.

I read.

Then one evening I smelled almond soap in hotel lobby and froze.

Not allergen maybe fragrance.

Panic.

I left.

No shame.

Therapy.

Dr. Elena Márquez helped me separate risk from smell.

It took months.

Then I saw yellow? no relevance.

The wedding perfume had gold bottle.

I threw away all almond-scented candles.

Fine.

Then wedding photos.

The civil ceremony happened before attack.

We had pictures.

Alejandro and me signing.

Smiling.

Parents absent.

That was actual marriage moment.

I kept.

The grand ceremony never occurred.

I stopped calling it ruined wedding.

It was canceled ceremony.

Marriage survived.

Language mattered.

Then Fernanda entered court for plea.

She looked nothing like bridesmaid.

No makeup.

Hair tied.

May you like

She had to say what she did in her own words.

I attended.
