Chapter 9 - The Money Sarah Collected Twice

Rachel wanted every dollar explained.
Not because she expected reimbursement immediately.
Because she had sent Sarah $900 monthly for Tyler.
Twenty months.
$18,000.
Sarah claimed most went to food and school.
Meanwhile I paid:
Clothes.
Field trips.
Groceries.
Tablet.
Summer camp deposit.
Sarah also received $2,400 monthly fake salary.
Health coverage.
Mitchell Home Support payments.
She had money coming from every direction.
Did that mean she stole Tyler’s support?
Not automatically.
She housed him.
Transported him.
Provided supervision.
But she lied to Rachel about what I covered.
Rachel said:
“Mom told me Emily made her pay rent.”
I laughed.
Sarah paid no rent.
Michael had insisted:
“She’s helping with Tyler.”
Then Sarah told me Rachel sent only “a few hundred when she remembers.”
Another lie.
She played us against each other.
Then Rachel’s old history.
Growing up, Sarah told Michael:
Your sister is irresponsible.
Told Rachel:
Your brother is selfish.
Each child competed for Sarah’s approval.
As adults:
Michael funded her.
Rachel apologized to her.
Sarah stayed center.
Tyler and Olivia inherited roles.
Boy heir.
Girl inconvenience.
Then benefits administrator completed audit.
Sarah was never eligible as consultant because no work existed.
Coverage would terminate prospectively under plan rules, with insurer reviewing claims.
I could not simply erase surgery coverage that afternoon.
Good.
I had acted in rage.
The system had rules.
Sarah would receive notice and continuation or marketplace options as applicable.
I felt strangely relieved.
I did not want medical harm.
I wanted boundaries.
Then Rachel said:
“Mom’s gallbladder surgery is medically necessary.”
“Yes.”
“You okay if I help her find coverage?”
“Of course.”
That surprised Rachel.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want her dead. I want her out of my company.”
Difference.
Then criminal case.
Sarah’s attorney requested interview.
She began separating herself from Michael.
Of course.
She claimed:
Michael designed everything.
Camera.
Custody plan.
Company crisis.
She only agreed to “make Emily angry.”
Then hot dog.
She admitted she deliberately put food near Olivia.
Did she intend to slap?
Sarah said no.
“She grabbed.”
Detective Price:
“She was two.”
Sarah:
“I know.”
“Why strike?”
“She smirked.”
I stared when told.
A two year old smirked?
That was how Sarah justified cruelty.
Then she said:
“I lost control.”
Could be true.
Then after slap, Michael told her:
What the hell did you do?
That supported no preplanned child assault.
Then Sarah admitted she decided to keep going because:
“The setup was already ruined.”
Ruined.
Olivia bleeding was inconvenience to plan.
Then:
“Did you grab Emily’s hair because Michael told you?”
“He said stop her from leaving frame.”
There.
Michael’s instruction.
Did he mean physical?
Sarah:
“He didn’t say how.”
Still conspiracy to provoke.
Then the hidden dome camera.
Installed without my knowledge.
Privacy law complicated because common area and co-owner.
But using it to stage evidence mattered more.
Then a second camera discovered.
Dining room.
No one had noticed.
It contained older clips.
Sarah insulting me.
Michael sitting silently.
One from three months earlier:
Sarah:
“You spend too much on Olivia.”
Me:
“She is our child.”
Sarah:
“Tyler needs more.”
Michael:
“Can we not do this?”
Sarah:
“Tell your wife boys cost more.”
Michael laughed.
A small uncomfortable laugh.
Me:
“That isn’t funny.”
Michael:
“I know.”
Then he changed subject.
Pattern.
He had not created Sarah’s beliefs.
He had repeatedly refused to challenge them.
May you like
Until he weaponized them.
Continue to the next part: Older camera footage shows Michael spent months tolerating Sarah’s contempt toward Olivia before deciding that the same hostility could be useful against Emily.
