Chapter 7 - My Brother’s Wife Knew the Voice

The voice sounded exactly like my father.

Measured.

Low.

Impatient with wasted words.

“Lila, do not contact Sabrina until the Rollins succession is secured.”

My father had been dead.

Either the recording date was wrong, the voice was synthetic, or he had created instructions before death that someone deployed later.

Rollins Global owned advanced voice authentication technology.

Sentinel could reproduce authorized executive commands for emergency systems.

Kenneth had access.

Justin had access.

I had access.

Maya had access through Justin’s stolen tokens.

The voice could have been manufactured by anyone holding enough source material.

Lila answered the recording as though she believed it was real.

“You told me the children would be returned.”

The voice replied:

“They will be returned when Sabrina can protect them from her husband.”

“Who decides when that happens?”

“I do.”

My father’s likeness had become another authority controlling women after his death.

The audio analysts found tiny rhythm inconsistencies.

Synthetic.

Created from board recordings and private messages.

The command file used Justin’s executive encryption certificate.

Justin’s face emptied when Grace told him.

“I did not create it.”

“Your certificate did.”

“Maya had access.”

“Who else?”

“Kenneth could have copied it.”

We needed facts.

Maya listened to the audio from her hospital room.

She recognized it immediately.

Kenneth played the same voice during financial meetings.

He told her my father had created a confidential artificial intelligence adviser before death.

The system supposedly issued binding instructions for the family trust.

Maya believed she was following the founder’s wishes when she copied Justin’s credentials.

“You believed a dead man ordered you to transfer millions?” Detective Mills asked.

“At first.”

“When did you stop believing?”

“When the voice asked me to carry the baby.”

The night at North Canyon, Kenneth played a message in my father’s voice.

It instructed Maya to move the second newborn to Lila Avery because Sabrina was not medically prepared to parent.

Maya knew by then that the instructions came through Kenneth.

She still obeyed.

“Why?” the detective asked.

“Kenneth said Justin had authorized it.”

“Did you ask Justin?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because then I would have to explain everything else.”

One lie required another until a newborn became cargo between people protecting themselves.

Maya also knew the red door.

Lila’s vehicle took the baby to a former Rollins family retreat called Red Haven.

My father used it for private board meetings.

After his death, Charles Benton purchased it through a trust.

Public records listed the property as vacant.

Police surrounded Red Haven before sunrise.

The front door was painted dark red.

Inside, they found Celeste Ward.

She had been drugged but remained alive.

Elsie and the second girl were gone.

Celeste woke long enough to say Lila arrived after Kenneth’s hospital emergency.

She believed the safe would be opened.

She wanted the girls moved before Kenneth traded their location for legal protection.

Charles Benton arrived unexpectedly.

Lila trusted him because he claimed my father had ordered a final relocation.

Celeste did not.

They argued.

Someone injected her from behind.

When she woke, the children and Lila were gone.

“Was Charles pretending to have a stroke?” Detective Mills asked.

Celeste nodded.

“He has been running everything.”

The property search found a private server beneath the library.

It contained the synthetic version of my father’s voice.

Charles had created the dead founder system.

Kenneth used it.

Maya obeyed it.

Lila believed it when fear made belief convenient.

The server also contained video calls between Charles and my father during his final illness.

My father knew Project Seven diverted embryos.

He had not created the program.

He discovered it after my first procedure.

He confronted Charles and ordered every embryo returned to my control.

Charles argued that revealing the truth would destroy Rollins Global and expose the family trust to hundreds of claims.

My father threatened to report him.

The final call ended with Charles saying:

“You will not live long enough to destroy what you built.”

My father died from a heart condition six weeks later.

His death had been considered natural.

The recording did not prove murder.

It made review unavoidable.

Another file showed Kenneth visiting Charles after the funeral.

Charles offered him access to the founder voice system and Project Seven in exchange for future company control.

Kenneth agreed.

The conspiracy began before our wedding.

He had not married me and later become corrupt.

He entered the marriage with a plan.

Justin watched the video beside me.

“You were selected.”

“Yes.”

“Maya said Kenneth admitted that in the audio you found.”

“Yes.”

“And we let him into everything.”

“We trusted him.”

“I trusted Maya.”

I looked at my brother.

“We both did.”

The difference was that I had begun examining the trust after financial anomalies.

Justin had dismissed my concerns because family conflict felt more dangerous than weak security.

He finally said:

“I signed a backup authority form after Dad died.”

“What form?”

“Charles said it allowed the founder system to act if both of us became unavailable.”

“Did you read it?”

“No.”

Justin had given Charles another key.

The form allowed the synthetic voice system to issue instructions under his certificate.

Maya copied credentials, but Justin created the opening through negligence.

He did not cause the abductions.

He helped make the mechanism possible.

The forensic team opened one final folder from the Red Haven server.

It contained live feeds from three nursery rooms.

Two were empty.

The third showed Elsie sleeping beside another little girl.

A man entered carrying my evidence folder from the hospital.

Kenneth.

He was supposed to be recovering under police supervision.

Continue to the next part: Kenneth appears inside the hidden nursery even though officers are guarding his hospital room.
