Chapter 6 - The Procedure I Never Authorized

The implant had a serial number.

That number connected my surgery to Meridian’s internal research program.

Officially, Project Seven studied hormone timing in patients with repeated implantation failure.

The published research used anonymous data.

The hidden records showed something else.

Doctors suppressed patients’ natural fertility while transferring viable embryos into privately funded pregnancies.

The program created children whose biological parents were told conception had failed.

Some recipients wanted children without adoption scrutiny.

Some investors wanted heirs connected to particular genetic lines.

Some executives wanted control over family trusts.

Kenneth used an existing criminal system rather than inventing one.

Dr. Pierce and Dr. Lila Avery had designed Project Seven together.

Then Lila objected when private clients began claiming children as financial assets.

She copied records.

Dr. Pierce removed her from the clinic and reported her as psychologically unstable.

Her license was suspended after an emergency evaluation signed by Charles Benton.

The same attorney protecting my father’s trust helped silence the scientist who tried to expose the abuse.

Lila disappeared with the second newborn.

Celeste later sheltered both children.

Kenneth controlled the money and one legal identity.

Lila controlled the evidence and the other child.

Neither side contacted me.

Grace arranged a meeting with a former Meridian nurse named Rose Bennett.

Rose had assisted during my procedure.

She entered the interview carrying a sealed envelope.

“I should have found you years ago.”

“Why did you not?”

“I signed a confidentiality agreement.”

“That does not cover medical fraud.”

“I was afraid.”

Fear had become the most common word in the investigation.

I no longer mistook it for innocence.

Rose said I woke briefly during surgery and asked whether the embryos were safe.

Dr. Pierce increased my sedation.

Kenneth stood beyond the operating room door.

He signed the implant authorization after Dr. Pierce warned that a future pregnancy would trigger the maternal trust.

“How did a fertility doctor know about my company shares?”

“Kenneth brought Charles Benton.”

The attorney attended a medical procedure to protect a financial strategy.

Rose saw seven embryos developing normally.

Two were selected for transfer into gestational carriers.

Five went into storage.

Kenneth approved every decision.

“Did he choose the carriers?”

“Dr. Pierce did.”

“Where are the five remaining embryos?”

Rose looked toward the envelope.

“The storage report is false.”

She opened it.

All five embryos were transferred out of Meridian within eighteen months.

Three went to private recipients.

Two were marked research loss.

The recipient names were coded.

Kenneth may have more biological children connected to me.

The safe had exposed only the first two.

I felt the room narrowing.

“How many children?”

“We do not know whether the other transfers resulted in pregnancies.”

“Did anyone intend to tell me?”

“Lila did.”

“When?”

“The night Elsie was born.”

Lila called my house.

Kenneth answered.

He told her I had suffered a breakdown and wanted no contact with the children.

She did not believe him.

She removed the second baby and attempted to remove Elsie too.

Celeste stopped her because Kenneth held valid looking guardianship documents.

The women divided the children while arguing about how to protect them.

No one protected my right to know.

Rose gave us a location Lila once mentioned.

An abandoned research lodge near Pikes Peak.

Police searched it.

Fresh tire tracks surrounded the building.

Inside, investigators found medical supplies, children’s books, and a wall covered with Rollins Global board photographs.

My face had been circled.

Kenneth’s face had been crossed out.

Justin’s photograph carried a question mark.

The second child’s drawings showed two girls holding hands.

One had dark hair.

One had lighter hair.

A woman with a silver moon pendant stood behind them.

A red door appeared in every picture.

The lodge had no red door.

The symbol likely referred to another location.

One locked cabinet contained vials labeled with my name.

Blood.

Hormone samples.

Genetic material.

Lila had continued monitoring me without consent.

Perhaps to prove maternity.

Perhaps for another purpose.

The laptop had been wiped except for one audio file.

Lila spoke quickly.

“Sabrina, Kenneth believes the maternal trust activates only through a registered birth. He is wrong. Your father added a living genetic descendant clause. Any child created from your embryos can challenge control, even without a public identity.”

The missing girls were not only evidence of medical abuse.

They were potential shareholders.

If all transferred embryos resulted in children, each one could weaken Kenneth’s strategy.

Lila continued.

“Charles Benton knows where the other three transfers went. He is not ill. His stroke is performed.”

The family attorney had faked incapacity to avoid questioning.

Before the recording ended, another voice entered.

My father.

The audio date came eighteen months after his death.

Continue to the next part: A recording created after her father’s death suggests someone has been using his voice to control Project Seven.
