Chapter 22 - Daniel’s Apology to Megan

People assumed Daniel hated Megan forever.

He did not.

Hatred faded.

Trust did not return in same form.

At Noah twenty, Daniel asked Megan to meet.

Not court.

Not custody.

Coffee.

Sarah knew.

I knew because Daniel tells too much.

He wanted apologize.

“For what?” I asked.

“Leaving her alone.”

“Be careful not to take her responsibility.”

“I know.”

He met.

He told later.

“I’m sorry I treated providing money as all parenting.”

Megan:

“Thank you.”

Then:

“I’m sorry I ignored you saying you were scared.”

She cried.

Then:

“You didn't make me hurt Noah.”

Good.

“I know.”

Then she apologized again for hiding.

No need.

Then Daniel asked:

“Do you forgive me?”

She said:

“Yes.”

Then:

“Do you forgive me?”

He said:

“Yes, but I’ll never forget safety.”

Good.

Then they talked about Noah.

No conflict.

Then Sarah.

She was not threatened.

Because relationship secure.

Then Patricia and Megan.

They eventually reconciled more, but Megan maintained boundaries.

Patricia had learned:

Do not protect daughter from consequence.

At one health crisis, Patricia needed surgery. Megan helped.

No codependence.

Then Noah studied abroad.

He called me from Italy.

“Grandma, do you know where passport?”

I laughed.

“Ask father.”

Why funny? No.

He had passport always.

Then he said:

“I was thinking about Mom’s canceled appointment.”

“Why?”

He was in healthcare systems class discussing safeguarding.

He asked whether hospitals should auto notify both parents when infant misses.

Not always due domestic safety.

Complex.

He realized systems must balance.

He wrote paper on missed appointment escalation without mentioning self.

Good.

Then after graduation, Noah entered public health data analytics? Interesting. But user stories maybe family. He could become civil engineer? Let's say health data analyst due interest but not trauma-only.

Maybe he chooses software engineering like dad. Fine.

Then first serious girlfriend, Claire Morgan.

He told her family history when serious.

She asked:

“Do you hate your mom?”

“No.”

“Do you trust?”

“In some ways.”

Specific.

Then:

“Does this make you afraid to have kids?”

“Yes.”

There.

He worried crying baby would trigger.

Therapy.

No inherited destiny.

Then he married Claire at twenty eight.

Megan attended.

Daniel.

Sarah.

Me, now ninety? Wait start 68, 28 years later 96. Could be too old but possible. Maybe he marries 24? Let's compress. Noah at 20 in chapter 22, we can final by 25 maybe 25. Helen 93. Still plausible but old. Could have him marry 24. fine.

Need chapters 23-25 closure.
