Chapter 8 - Carter Exit Plan

The file was recovered from a cloud storage account linked to NRC Strategic Events.

Police obtained it through legal process.

I did not see the original immediately.

My attorney received a summarized copy once disclosure allowed.

Folder:

CARTER FAMILY.

Subfolders:

ANDREW.

CLARA.

COMPANY.

HOUSE.

INSURANCE.

That was not proof of a crime by itself.

Planning family matters is legal.

Content was not ordinary.

A document titled:

Timeline.

Week 1:

Evelyn and Richard stay at house.

Reduce Clara’s direct communication with Andrew.

Establish instability and dependence.

Obtain acknowledgment.

Week 2:

Andrew executes POA.

Richard assumes proxy.

Clara leaves property voluntarily or appears to.

Review marital options.

My hands went cold.

“Appears to?”

Laura nodded.

Another note:

If Clara refuses departure, document verbal abuse and child instability.

Natalie had been building a narrative.

Clara unsafe.

Dependent.

Unstable.

Maybe unfaithful.

Then:

Toby paternity question useful only if Andrew receptive. Do not overuse.

I closed my eyes.

She had written it down.

Not because criminal mastermind.

Because Natalie loved lists.

Event planner.

Schedules.

Tasks.

She had turned family manipulation into a project plan.

Then a line I did not understand.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Protect A.C. before Chicago disclosure closes.

A.C.

Andrew Carter?

Protect me?

“Chicago disclosure?”

Laura said:

“We think it refers to your Chicago contract.”

“What about it?”

“Did the contract trigger a financial certification?”

“Yes.”

Carter Sentinel had to provide audited representations regarding related party transactions and vendor controls.

The independent audit had begun two months earlier.

It could uncover NRC payments.

There.

The Chicago contract would expose Natalie’s invoices.

She needed control before that.

If Richard gained authority over my shares and business decisions, maybe he could pressure auditors, dismiss staff, or delay disclosure.

Not easily.

But Natalie may not understand corporate controls.

She did understand that Dad could influence me.

The entire household campaign was connected to financial fraud.

Not because Clara discovered it.

Because Natalie feared I would.

Why target Clara?

Because Clara was the person most likely to challenge Richard taking control.

My wife knew I never wanted family inside company governance.

She would know the POA was wrong.

So Natalie needed her discredited or gone.

The fake insurance form made Clara look deceptive.

The paternity comments created emotional distance.

The phone interference prevented Clara warning me.

The signed acknowledgment created false evidence she consented.

Then company shares.

A messy scheme, but coherent.

Richard’s role?

Still unclear.

Was he manipulated too, or a partner?

The Carter Exit Plan included:

RICHARD TALKING POINTS.

Andrew works too hard.

Clara is isolating him.

Family should preserve company for Toby.

Temporary proxy protects Andrew during travel.

Dad had been given a script.

That suggested Natalie was driving.

But he still chose to use it.

He still held the documents.

He still watched Clara sleep in a storage room.

Evelyn’s role appeared emotional enforcement.

Mom believed Clara was weakening me.

Natalie fed that belief.

But Mom also took money.

The $18,000 transfer.

We later learned Evelyn had loaned Natalie $25,000 two years earlier.

Natalie repaid $18,000 from unauthorized company funds.

Evelyn claimed she did not know source.

Could be true.

Her cruelty did not automatically make her part of wire fraud.

Again:

Separate wrongs.

Clara asked:

“Did they plan to physically hurt us?”

“No evidence.”

“Did Natalie plan the storage room?”

“Yes.”

Her face tightened.

“How?”

A note:

If Clara refuses room reassignment, move her things to storage. Evelyn handles household authority.

Clara laughed bitterly.

“Household authority.”

I took her hand.

“You don’t have to read more.”

“Yes, I do.”

“Why?”

“Because for eight days they made me think I was losing my mind.”

So we read.

No secret murder plot.

No planned poisoning.

No fake kidnapping.

Just deliberate social pressure.

Isolation.

Humiliation.

Document manipulation.

Financial fraud.

Enough.

Then one line near bottom:

If Andrew still refuses, use Barron file.

Barron? That's from prior story, but not character. We cannot introduce wrong. Need use "Richard file"? But "use Barron file" is incorrect. Let's replace concept with use Mercer file? No. We need a named clue. Let's say "use LUCY file." But Lucy unborn? Hmm. Better "use PATERNITY file." That's logical.

Use PATERNITY packet.

I looked at Clara.

“What is that?”

She went pale.

“I don’t know.”

Laura said:

“We haven’t received that subfolder yet.”

A paternity packet.

Natalie had prepared something to make me doubt Toby or Lucy.

May you like

The cruelty at dinner had not been improvisation.

It had been rehearsal.
