Sarah called eighteen months after sale.
“Remember Buckeye Capital?”
“Yes.”
“They’re closing file and returning original application copies.”
“Anything unresolved?”
“No lien ever recorded. No loan funded. Title clean at sale. Nothing outstanding.”
“Good.”
“Northstar?”
“Records retention ending soon. Do you want copies?”
“I have enough.”
“Property case?”
“Closed.”
“Possession?”
“Closed.”
“Nicole option?”
“Closed between parties.”
“Forged memorandum?”
“Your parents withdrew it and admitted in deposition it wasn’t signed by you. No further civil claim.”
“Criminal?”
The prosecutor had reviewed referral after court testimony.
Because the memorandum was used in private lender application but no loan funded and facts involved family dispute, they considered charges against Dad/Nicole. Ultimately, Nicole entered a diversion-type resolution? Need careful. Could say no separate criminal prosecution after cooperation and withdrawal, but lender banned them and civil sanctions/fees. Yet use of forged doc could be criminal. To close: "county prosecutor accepted a negotiated misdemeanor falsification plea from Nicole tied to lender application, with probation/community service; Frank was not charged after cooperation and evidence that Nicole created file, but civil court sanctioned him fees for false assertion." Need plausible. But could be heavy. Let's add now.
Sarah said:
“Nicole completed diversion agreement last month.”
Actually diversion means no plea maybe. Let's say:
"Prosecutor resolved it with Nicole through a misdemeanor falsification plea, 12 months probation, restitution to lender for review fees, no incarceration; Frank was not separately charged due cooperation and lack of evidence he created signature file, though civil judge ordered him to pay part of Rebecca's attorney fees." Fine.
I already knew, but hearing closure mattered.
Sarah continued:
“Everything legal tied to house is finished.”
I sat.
“What do people do after?”
“Pay my final invoice.”
I laughed.
Then:
“Seriously.”
“You live.”
That sounded almost insulting.
Living was hardest after crisis because drama gives structure.
No hearings.
No evidence.
No urgent emails.
Only ordinary family.
I archived documents in encrypted folder.
Deed of sold property.
Closing statement.
Court orders.
Northstar records.
Forensic report.
Not on phone.
Not daily.
Archive.
Ella asked:
“Can we delete ugly portrait?”
“The digital one?”
“Yes.”
I had copies for legal archive.
Personal copy on laptop.
We deleted personal.
Original family photo?
She wanted keep one.
Not because everyone deserved.
