Chapter 17 - Victoria Comes Home

Victoria served four years eight months.

Released at sixty-three.

Supervised release three years.

She no longer chaired Mercer Heritage.

Her 25% economic stake remained subject to voting trust during supervision and civil settlement terms.

She moved to a condo in Naples, Florida.

Not poverty.

Smaller than estate.

Still comfortable.

She sold design company to employees/competitor? The company itself lost Mercer Heritage work and shrank. She wound it down.

No new charges.

Then restitution completed from estate sale, investments, share distributions.

Her 25% shares?

She needed liquidity.

Over years she sold 10% to employee trust at independently appraised value.

Kept 15%.

Cap table:

Elena 24.

Julian 22.

Victoria 15.

Employee trust 39.

Total 100.

No one family branch controlled.

Employee trust largest.

That transformed company more than prison.

Why did Victoria sell?

Restitution.

Legal bills.

Estate planning.

Also no desire governance.

Then she requested shareholder meeting attendance after supervision.

Allowed as 15% owner.

By video.

I chaired? Maria still chair maybe. I was director.

Victoria appeared older.

Quiet.

No attempts.

At first meeting she asked one question:

“Why is employee trust proposal to increase hotel staff retention bonus so expensive?”

Laura answered.

Victoria nodded.

No fight.

I almost laughed at normality.

People can become ordinary after catastrophe.

Then after meeting she asked counsel to pass message:

“I do not need response. Tell Elena I will respect boundaries.”

Good.

She did.

Then years.

No surprise.

No hidden scheme.

Her life separate.

May you like

Julian's.

Mine.
