Chap 2

The ballroom was silent.

No one dared to breathe.

Adrian Blackwood stood in the center of the room, cradling the trembling little boy against his chest.

Blood stained the sleeve of his custom-tailored tuxedo.

His eyes never left Evelyn Whitmore.

The woman who, only moments earlier, had proudly declared,

"He's just a maid's son."

Now...

She wasn't smiling anymore.

Daniel Whitmore, the groom, hurried toward his mother.

"Mr. Blackwood..."

"I'm sure this is all a misunderstanding."

Adrian didn't even look at him.

Instead, he gently wiped the blood from Noah's forehead with a white handkerchief.

The little boy flinched in pain.

Adrian's jaw tightened.

"Does it hurt?"

Noah nodded through tears.

"A little..."

"I'm sorry, Dad."

Those words pierced Adrian's heart.

"You have nothing to apologize for."

He kissed the boy's forehead carefully, avoiding the wound.

"You did nothing wrong."

Nearby guests exchanged confused glances.

One elderly businessman whispered,

"Did the child just call him... Dad?"

Another quietly replied,

"I thought he belonged to one of the maids."

The rumors spread through the ballroom within seconds.

Evelyn finally regained enough confidence to speak.

"Mr. Blackwood..."

"I didn't know."

"I thought he was a servant's child."

Adrian slowly looked at her.

"So if he had been..."

His voice was calm.

"...that would have made it acceptable?"

Evelyn froze.

"I..."

"I only wanted to protect the wedding."

"You struck an eight-year-old child."

"You shoved him hard enough to split his head open."

"He was standing near the cake."

"He was ruining the photographs!"

Adrian took one slow step toward her.

"My son was holding a slice of leftover cake."

"He wasn't touching your guests."

"He wasn't making demands."

"He wasn't causing trouble."

"He was simply being a child."

His voice became colder with every sentence.

"And you answered kindness with violence."

Just then, a woman pushed through the crowd.

"NOAH!"

It was Grace, the estate's head housekeeper.

Still wearing her work uniform, she dropped to her knees beside Adrian.

"Oh my God..."

"My baby..."

Tears streamed down her face when she saw Noah's injury.

"I'm so sorry."

"I shouldn't have brought you here."

Noah immediately shook his head.

"It's not your fault, Mom."

The guests looked back and forth between Grace and Adrian in confusion.

Evelyn seized the moment.

"You see?"

"I told you."

"He's the maid's son."

Adrian slowly turned toward Grace.

He smiled gently.

Then reached out his free hand.

Grace hesitated.

He nodded reassuringly.

She placed her trembling hand in his.

Adrian looked at every guest in the ballroom.

Then spoke clearly enough for every camera to record.

"Grace isn't simply this estate's housekeeper."

"She's my wife."

The ballroom exploded into shocked whispers.

Charlotte, the bride, covered her mouth.

Daniel's eyes widened.

Even the wedding photographers lowered their cameras.

Evelyn staggered backward.

"...What?"

Adrian continued.

"We married quietly nine years ago."

"Grace chose to continue working because she loved caring for this estate."

"She never wanted my wealth to define her."

He looked down at Noah.

"And this little boy..."

"...is my only son."

The room fell completely silent.

Everything Evelyn believed about status...

Everything she believed about appearances...

Collapsed in an instant.

The child she had called worthless...

Was the sole heir to the Blackwood fortune.

A fortune worth billions.

Her hands began trembling.

"Mr. Blackwood..."

"I can explain."

Adrian answered without emotion.

"No."

"You can explain it to the police."

As if on cue...

The ballroom doors opened once again.

Uniformed police officers entered alongside emergency medical personnel.

A paramedic hurried toward Noah.

"We need to stop the bleeding immediately."

Adrian carefully handed his son to the medical team but never took his eyes off Evelyn.

The lead detective approached.

"Mr. Blackwood."

"We received your emergency call."

Adrian nodded once.

"She assaulted my son."

He pointed directly at Evelyn.

"And there are over two hundred witnesses in this room."

The detective turned toward the guests.

One by one...

People silently nodded.

Some even raised their phones.

May you like

They had recorded everything.

There was nowhere left to hide.
