Chapter 11 - Sabrina’s Truth
Sabrina walked to witness stand in dark blue.
No glamour.
She looked older after ten months detention.
Her own attorney began.
“Did you intend to murder Wyatt when you first restrained him?”
“No.”
“Why restrain?”
“My father said Wyatt was destroying Palmer Development and would ruin all of us.”
“Did you believe father?”
“Yes.”
“Did you love Wyatt?”
“Yes.”
“Did you believe Wyatt had betrayed you?”
“Yes.”
Because he investigated.
Because he kept trust details.
Because he threatened divorce.
Then:
“Did you drug him?”
“Yes.”
“To kill?”
“Initially to keep him calm.”
No medical authority.
No excuse.
“Did your father break knee?”
“Yes.”
“Did you ask him to?”
“No.”
“Did you say stop?”
“Yes.”
Video.
“Were you afraid after?”
“Yes.”
“Why not call police?”
“Because Dad said everything would come out. The invoices. The confinement. Drugs.”
Then:
“Did you want Wyatt to die?”
She cried.
“At first, no.”
That word.
At first.
Her lawyer paused.
“What changed?”
Sabrina looked at Wyatt.
“I thought there was no way out.”
Then she admitted.
After injury, release meant prison.
If Wyatt died under apparent overdose, they could conceal.
She told herself:
“I won’t personally give final injection.”
So she could pretend not murder.
But she edited video.
Prepared email.
Helped timeline.
Administered prior sedatives.
Hosted party.
Kept chain.
Then:
“I knew what Dad intended.”
There.
Her own attorney had perhaps decided accountability better than impossible denial.
Maybe positioning sentencing.
Then cross.
Monica:
“Did Wyatt put chain on himself?”
“No.”
“Did he voluntarily take substances?”
“No.”
“Did he sign documents?”
“No.”
“Did he ask hospital?”
“Yes.”
“How many times?”
“I don’t know.”
“More than once?”
“Yes.”
“Did you possess key?”
“Yes.”
“Did you unlock?”
“No.”
“Did you have phone?”
“Yes.”
“Did you call police?”
“No.”
“Did you help edit goodbye video?”
“Yes.”
“Did you draft death email?”
“Yes.”
“Before Wyatt died?”
“Yes.”
“Did you understand final plan was for him not to survive?”
She sobbed.
“Yes.”
There.
Then money.
“Did you believe Wyatt would inherit Heartland?”
“Yes.”
“Did you know prenup restricted shares?”
“I knew papers said something.”
“Did you read?”
“Not carefully.”
“Did Wyatt tell you foundation was charitable?”
“Yes.”
“Did you still prepare resignation?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Dad said trustees could be replaced.”
Then:
“Did you think marriage entitled you?”
She paused.
“Yes.”
Monica:
“To his money?”
“Yes.”
“To his signature?”
“No.”
“But you used it.”
“Yes.”
“To his body?”
Sabrina looked.
“No.”
“But you restrained it.”
“Yes.”
No speech.
The admissions were enough.
Then Irving testified.
Against advice.
He needed final word.
He called kidnapping “family intervention.”
Sledgehammer “self defense.”
Drugs “medical calming.”
Overdose plan “hypothetical contingency.”
Financial transfers “bridge financing.”
Prosecutor stripped euphemisms.
“Did you buy chain before Christmas?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Equipment.”
“Did you bring to Wyatt’s home?”
“Yes.”
“Was there trailer?”
“No.”
“Did you use on Wyatt?”
“Yes.”
“Did you strike knee?”
“Yes.”
“Was he chained?”
“Yes.”
“Did he have weapon?”
“No.”
“Did you call ambulance?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“He would accuse us.”
Then fatal.
“Did you write Timeline After Midnight?”
“Yes.”
“What was intended final dose?”
He said:
“Medication.”
“For what?”
“To make scene believable.”
“Believable as what?”
“Overdose.”
“Would Wyatt be alive?”
He hesitated.
“I don’t know.”

That’s the point.
Prosecutor:
“You did know.”
He stared.
Then Palmer debt.
January third deadline.
Four point eight.
Wyatt refused.
Needed.
Motive.
At closing, Sabrina’s lawyer argued fear and domination but admitted serious crimes.
Asked jury distinguish from Irving.
Irving lawyer argued no substantial step to murder because final act never administered.
Prosecutor argued the attempt began before final act.
They restrained.
Drugged.
Prepared.
Edited.
Staged.
Were interrupted.
The jury deliberated three days.
I slept none.
Then verdict.
Kidnapping.
Guilty, both.
Aggravated assault.
Irving guilty principal.
Sabrina guilty as accomplice and for her own abuse.
Administering harmful substances.
Sabrina guilty.
Irving conspiracy guilty.
Forgery and attempted financial theft.
Guilty.
Attempted murder.
Irving:
Guilty.
Sabrina:
Guilty.
Sabrina collapsed into chair.
Irving did not move.
Wyatt closed eyes.
