Chapter 12 - Willow House Returns

Clearing Willow House took eighteen months.
Lender had valid mortgage interests complicated by fraudulent authority.
Settlement required:
MRC assets liquidated.
Insurance coverage.
Michael restitution.
Carter Holdings purchase of certain obligations.
My own contribution? I could have paid outright, but Anna refused if it meant I “bought back” what Michael took.
Eventually lien resolved.
Title transferred to Anna Mercer.
Legally.
No ambiguity.
Blake handed deed.
Anna cried.
I gave key.
This time she took.
She renovated slowly.
Not back to luxury.
Back to Luke.
Porch repaired.
Kitchen rebuilt.
Apple trees mostly dead.
She replanted.
I offered money.
She said no initially.
Then accepted a specific gift:
Roof.
Because Richard’s memorandum included maintenance funds I had failed to use.
Fair.
She let me visit.
Boundaries softened.
Not erased.
One day she asked:
“Do you want to stay overnight?”
I almost cried.
Guest room.
First time in twelve years I slept under roof my daughter called home.
We drank tea.
Talked until midnight.

Not about Michael for first hour.
That mattered.
