Chapter 21 - Michael and the New Owner

Years after lake house sale, Michael received invitation from new owners? Could be weird. Maybe not.

Instead, new owners sent letter because found old carved initials J+E under dock bench.

James and Eleanor.

Michael laughed.

“You’re letting go.”

Then he said:

“I wish lake stayed family.”

“Why?”

“Good memories too.”

Christmases.

Fishing.

James teaching boys.

He nodded.

Then Caleb brought June to visit me.

She asked:

“Grandma Eleanor, can you swim?”

He smiled.

June:

“Dad says never push anyone in pool.”

Then Michael asked about his own estate.

He wanted leave equally to Caleb/Tyler.

I said:

“Not my business.”

“Advice.”

“Tell them while alive.”

Then he asked if Denise should receive anything despite divorce.

“No idea.”

He laughed.

He left modest bequest due years married perhaps. His choice.

Then Michael had medical scare.

Heart procedure.

I visited despite ninety plus.

He said:

“Roles reversed.”

“Don’t be dramatic.”

He laughed.

He recovered.

Then:

“Mom, if I become incompetent…”

“Professional documents.”

“Yes.”
