The architecture office went dark at eight forty seven.
Federal agents had not yet arrived because Project Lantern required a specialized security team.
Local police secured the building.
Someone disabled the external power and backup generator from inside the utility room.
Mark Ellis and Douglas Crane entered through an old service tunnel shown on one of Robert Mercer’s original plans.
The tunnel connected the office basement to a neighboring parking structure.
Elena’s father had designed it as an emergency exit.
Only someone with access to his archives would know it existed.
Crane had reviewed Mercer property records for Victoria.
He found the route there.
The basement camera showed Ellis carrying a compact cutting tool.
Crane carried the original Sentinel trust seal.
They reached the vault before officers reached the tunnel entrance.
Elena watched the live feed from her apartment with Diana and Claire.
Alejandro stood beside the door, ordered by Diana not to leave.
He wanted to enter the building himself.
Elena looked at him.
“You came back from one mission. Do not create another because waiting feels helpless.”
He stayed.
Inside the vault, Ellis opened the Project Lantern tube.
He removed no building plan.
He removed a black envelope taped inside the cardboard wall.
Crane tore it open.
The contents were not visible on camera.
His expression changed.
“What is that?” Ellis asked.
Crane replied, “A list of every identity Sentinel ever used.”

The driver wore a dark hat and mask.
The vehicle disappeared before roadblocks closed.
Ellis surrendered.
He admitted rerouting Alejandro’s messages.
He admitted entering the architecture office.
He denied knowing Victoria intended physical violence.

“Who is Sentinel?” Diana asked.
Ellis looked exhausted.
“A group built from people who believe families are systems. They think emotion creates security risk.”
“Names.”
“I met only one director.”
“Who?”
“Colonel Jonathan Mercer.”
The retired officer whose signature appeared on Alejandro’s forged casualty notice.
Mercer had been dead for two years.
Ellis insisted he met him six months earlier.
Either the man was alive under a false death, or someone used his identity in person.
A photograph from Ellis’s phone showed the meeting.
The man resembled Colonel Mercer but wore glasses and appeared younger.
Facial analysis could not confirm identity.
The original Mercer death involved a private aircraft accident.
No body was recovered.

Sentinel may have allowed selected members to die legally while remaining active privately.
Victoria learned from their methods.

Crane contacted Claire through an encrypted message.

Prosecutors refused immunity.

Crane sent one page as proof.

Rebecca Stone.
Colonel Jonathan Mercer.
Military spouses.
Contractors.
Attorneys.
Doctors.
Some dead.
Some missing.
Some alive under other names.
The final line contained Elena’s name.
Status: Scheduled deceased after delivery.
Elena stared at the screen.
Sentinel had not planned only to declare her incompetent.
