His death certificate, burial record, hospital chart, and cemetery file were genuine.
Unlike Alejandro’s false casualty notice, Gabriel had truly died.
Someone was using his identity.
Douglas Crane managed Gabriel’s estate.
Victoria controlled his trust.
Either could have preserved signature samples.
The Sentinel account opened two years after Gabriel’s death.
Its original purpose described family asset protection.
Victoria transferred construction company proceeds into it.
Later, Vale Strategic began using the same account to finance communication routing, medical facilities, and Golden Heir operations.
Gabriel’s name provided a dead owner who could not challenge transactions.
Alejandro visited his father’s grave under military security.
Elena did not join him.
Her doctor had restricted travel.
Alejandro stood beside the stone for a long time.
“I believed she lost everything after you died,” he said quietly.
“She told me we survived because she sacrificed.”
Instead, Victoria had used Gabriel’s assets to build power.
The realization did not erase the mother he remembered.

“She believed she was a partner.”
“Who controlled it?” Diana asked.

“I never received names.”
Instructions arrived through secure Vale channels.
Pierce was told which families required status management.
Victoria supplied client information.
Crane supplied legal documents.
Dr. Reed supplied medical language.

The committee approved targets and payments.
“Why target Elena?” Diana asked.
Pierce looked toward his attorney.
“Her property was valuable.”
“Not enough for this operation.”
“She also had access to something through her father’s company.”
Mercer Design Holdings had designed secure facilities for defense contractors.
Elena’s father, Robert Mercer, created structural plans for underground data centers, military communication sites, and emergency command buildings.
After his death, Elena inherited the company archives.
Most were ordinary architectural records.
Some remained classified under government agreements.

Elena had never heard the name.
Pierce said Sentinel believed the Lantern plans showed physical access routes into an old communications facility.

Victoria wanted property and the baby.

Elena remembered the line.

Police searched them.

Diana stopped the search until federal clearance arrived.
Vale Strategic filed an emergency legal claim saying the plans belonged to the contractor.
Elena’s firm records showed her father retained them because Vale failed to pay final invoices and attempted unauthorized structural changes.
The dispute had never been resolved.
Before federal investigators could remove the tube, the office lost power.
Emergency lights activated.
A security guard reported movement inside the basement.
Mark Ellis appeared on camera near the vault.
