Deputies entered Cedar Hollow with environmental officers, trust representatives, and a search warrant.
The property had remained empty since my grandmother died.
I visited twice a year.
Ethan always refused to come.
He said the old house smelled damp.
Now I understood that entering with me might expose knowledge he was not supposed to possess.
The front door showed no damage.

Inside, dust had been disturbed around Clara’s office.

The device did not belong to Ethan.
Someone placed it before the burial and watched the yard independently.
The account owner was Deputy Lauren Hayes.
The deputy who led my rescue.
Hayes admitted placing the camera after receiving an anonymous warning that Carter Residential planned to pressure a pregnant landowner.
She had no warrant to enter the property, so she positioned the camera from a neighboring public easement facing the backyard.
The view should have alerted her sooner.
The feed went offline the night before the burial and returned only minutes before my emergency call.
Someone inside the sheriff’s technology unit disabled it.
Hayes had believed the camera malfunctioned.
The network reached beyond the family.
Dispatch logs showed my first emergency activation entered the system hours earlier.
The call was marked accidental and closed without review.

Samuel was Diane’s cousin.
He worked inside county emergency communications.
He had heard breathing beneath the soil and ended the call.
The second dispatcher reopened it because the location appeared twice.
She ignored the accidental label.
