Chapter 11 - Claire Files for Divorce

Claire filed four days later.
No dramatic public announcement.
No revenge post.
A complaint.
A request for temporary financial orders.
Disclosure.
Preservation.
She opened a personal account for future earnings.
She did not empty joint accounts.
Her attorney, Monica Reyes, advised her to leave sufficient legitimate funds and document every move.
Derek accused her of “financial abandonment.”
Monica ignored rhetoric.
Then temporary orders.
No extraordinary transfers.
No destruction of records.
Both parties disclose debts.
Joint property preserved.
The court would later decide allocation.
Then Derek texted Claire despite attorneys asking communication stay limited.
You are choosing your father over your husband.
Claire replied once.
No.
I am choosing not to be married to someone who forged my mother’s name.
Then blocked except designated channel.
Good.
Then Ron and Linda.
Linda’s cooperation drove a wedge between them.
Ron called her a traitor.
She moved temporarily to her sister’s home in South Carolina.
No cabin.
No house.
Most savings trapped in failed company.
She accepted responsibility for her part.
Ron did not.
Then Melissa Crane surrendered her notary commission voluntarily pending case.
Her insurer received claim.
She faced criminal charges for false acknowledgment and conspiracy.
Then Deputy Mills gave formal statement about the driveway.
He had seen Ron’s aggression.
He documented my papers.
Ron produced deed.
Ron stated:
“He signed it all over.”
Later learned I denied.
Then Ron tried to leave with deed.
Mills told him no.
Small facts.
Credibility.
Then prosecutors executed a search warrant on the U Haul storage contents Ron had packed.
Not because moving boxes were inherently evidence.
Because Linda said Derek had given Ron office files related to “cabin transfer.”
Inside a metal file drawer labeled LAKE:
Printed deed drafts.
The $50,000 settlement.
The occupancy plan.
A list:
Move Monday night.
Record Tuesday 8 a.m.
Ron/Linda inside before Tom visit.
Tom usually comes Wednesday.
They expected me Wednesday.
I came Tuesday.
Because the neighbor called about roof.
One day early.
That accidental timing disrupted everything.
Then:
If Tom arrives early:
Show deed.
Do not let inside.
Call Derek.
Keep Claire out.
Ron had shoved me during a contingency plan.
Then another sheet.
PROPERTY CONDITION.
Photographs of cabin rooms.
List of items to move to storage:
Margaret clothes.
Old dishes.
Tom papers.
Blue raincoat.
My jaw tightened.
They planned to box Margaret away.
Linda had not yet done it.
Thank God.
Then the most revealing note:
If Tom settles, code remains.
If Tom refuses, capacity report.
The adult protective report was not separate.
It was part of enforcement.
Then Detective Ruiz called.
“We’ve traced the APS report.”
“To Derek?”
“Device associated with his office laptop.”
There it was.
He filed.
He later admitted? Not yet.
Then another finding.
The report had been submitted using an email account created under Claire’s name.
My daughter.
He tried to make it look as though Claire herself had concerns about my mind.
Claire stared when told.
“He was going to make Dad think I betrayed him.”
Yes.
That was the ugliest twist yet.

Derek did not only want my property.
He wanted to isolate me from the person who would inherit it.
