The Carter Meridian board met in Atlanta twelve days after my return.
I attended in person.

Then vendor rebates.
Cynthia had routed two domestic vendor commissions into Blake Advisory.
Jeffrey approved.

Then travel.
Hotels.
Personal trips coded as executive development.

Not billions.

Then the edited London valuation.
Created from Jeffrey’s account.
He claimed an analyst prepared a scenario version.
The analyst denied.
Investigation ongoing.
Then board counsel.
Could Jeffrey be fired immediately?
Yes, if board found cause under employment agreement, but shareholders and directors wanted full process.
They voted to continue suspension.
Appoint Marcus interim CEO.
I remained executive chair and head of Europe until transition.
I did not seize the company.
Governance.
Then an independent director asked:
“Madeline, do you intend to continue running London?”
“No.”
The room went still.
“I’m coming home permanently.”
That decision mattered emotionally.
Not because women should abandon careers after family abuse.
Because the London division was built.

Then outside the boardroom, Samantha stopped me.
“You did not have to give up Europe.”
“I’m not.”
“What?”
“I’m giving up living there.”

Work remained.
Distance changed.
Then she handed me another document.
Carter Family Legacy Trust.
The independent trustee had completed preliminary DNA verification using a new test collected under controlled conditions.
Result:
Jeffrey excluded as Austin’s biological father.
Again.
Two legitimate tests now.
The 99.99% report submitted by Cynthia and Noelle was fraudulent.
Then Samantha said:
“The trust is referring the matter to its own counsel.”
No money from Liam’s beneficiary interest had been diverted.
But false documents had been submitted.
Noelle was no longer merely a cruel grandmother.
She was becoming part of a financial investigation too.
Then another page.
Email from Noelle to Cynthia:
I don’t care which test is technically right. Jeffrey has accepted Austin. That should be enough.
Cynthia:
The trust says biological.
Noelle:
Then use the report that says biological.
There.
Noelle knew there was a contradiction.
Whether she knew the second report itself was fabricated remained to be proved.
Then Cynthia replied:
Jeffrey says Madeline will destroy us if she sees the first one.
Noelle:
Then make sure she never does.
