The next morning, Keith woke up believing he could still fix everything.
That was who he was.
Someone who always believed charm could repair damage.
But Hannah was no longer listening to apologies.
Because apologies without accountability meant nothing.
David officially filed legal protections on the property.
The bank froze unauthorized attempts connected to the inheritance.
The house remained Hannah's.
Not Keith's.
Not Eleanor's.
Hers.
Keith arrived at the office expecting control.
Instead, he found his access removed from several accounts he had no right to manage.
"What is this?"
David calmly answered:
"Your wife corrected several unauthorized actions."
Keith laughed nervously.
"My wife?"
"No."
"Hannah."
The difference was obvious.
Eleanor tried a different approach.
She came to Hannah's home.
"I am still your family."
Hannah looked at her.
"Family doesn't secretly plan to take everything from someone."
Eleanor's expression hardened.
"You'll regret humiliating us."
Hannah calmly closed the door.
"No."
"I regret trusting you."
That night, Keith finally broke.
He came home.
No confidence.
No arrogance.
Only fear.
"Please."
"Can we talk?"
Hannah looked at him.
"You mean now?"
"Now that you lost?"
Keith looked away.
And that answer told her everything.
She removed her wedding ring.
Placed it on the table.
"I loved you."
"That was real."
"But the person I loved never existed."
Keith's eyes filled with regret.
But regret came too late.
The divorce was finalized months later.
Keith lost the lifestyle he thought he was entitled to.
Eleanor lost access to the inheritance she believed she deserved.
