Chapter 2

Hannah sat alone inside her father's study for nearly an hour.
The house remained quiet.
But downstairs, Keith was still there.
Still pretending.
Still playing the role of a loving husband.
And that was the part that hurt the most.
Not the betrayal.
Not even the greed.
It was how easily he switched between two versions of himself.
The husband she loved.
And the man planning to take everything from her.
Hannah unfolded the letter again.
Her father's handwriting filled the page.
"Sweetheart,
If you are reading this, then my fears were correct."
Her hands trembled.
"I noticed certain people became interested in my estate only after they realized you were the sole heir."
She stopped.
Her father had noticed.
Before she did.
"Love should never require you to surrender your security."
"Anyone who pressures you to give up what protects you does not love you."
Hannah closed her eyes.
A painful truth settled in.
Her father had seen Keith clearly.
While she was busy believing in the best of him.
The letter continued.
"I placed additional protections on the property."
"The house cannot be transferred without your independent approval."
"The inheritance cannot be accessed by anyone except you."
"And if anyone attempts manipulation, contact Attorney David Reynolds."
Hannah looked at the final line.
"My greatest fear was never losing money."
"It was watching someone use your kindness against you."
A tear rolled down her cheek.
Because that was exactly what happened.
That evening, Keith came upstairs.
He found Hannah sitting at her father's desk.
His expression immediately changed.
Only slightly.
But she noticed.
"Hannah?"
She looked up.
"You're home early."
A fake smile appeared on his face.
"Yeah."
"I was just wondering where you were."
She studied him.
Eight years together taught her every expression.
Every pause.
Every lie.
"I'm looking through Dad's documents."
Keith became interested instantly.
"Anything important?"
There it was.
The question.
Not:
"Are you okay?"
Not:
"Did something happen?"
Only:
"What did you find?"
Hannah smiled softly.
"No."
"Nothing important."
For the first time in years...
She lied to him.
And it felt strangely peaceful.
Over the next few days, Hannah watched.
She watched Keith.
She watched Eleanor.
She listened.
And she learned.
Keith started asking about the deed.
Eleanor started mentioning "family responsibilities."
They believed Hannah was still unaware.
They became careless.
That was their mistake.
Because Hannah wasn't reacting anymore.
She was preparing.
She contacted Attorney David Reynolds.
Her father's longtime lawyer.
When he saw her name on the appointment request, he immediately understood.
"You found the letter."
Hannah looked surprised.
"You knew about it?"
David nodded.
"Your father asked me to wait until you came to me."
"Why?"
"Because he wanted you to make your own decision."
Hannah looked down.
"My husband is trying to take my home."
David's expression remained calm.
"Your father suspected someone might try."
"What did he prepare?"
The attorney opened a file.
And Hannah realized her father had been protecting her in ways she never imagined.
Meanwhile, Keith believed everything was going perfectly.
He told Eleanor:
"She has no idea."
Soon, the house will be ours."
But what Keith didn't know...
Was that every account.
Every document.
Every legal protection.
Was already moving against him.
Hannah wasn't fighting for a house anymore.
She was fighting for herself.

And her father had given her everything she needed to win.
To be continued... Chapter 3 will reveal Keith's final betrayal and the moment Hannah turns his own plan against him.
