The emergency board meeting began while police searched the coastal facility.
Guests remained inside the estate because officers needed statements and the security lockdown had not yet been fully lifted.
The wedding tables became evidence stations.
Flowers were moved aside for laptops, sealed bags, and corporate records.
Evelyn sat near the open conservatory doors where ocean air reached her.
Rebecca remained beside her.
The baby’s heartbeat stayed steady, but the contractions returned whenever Graham approached.
Detective Grant ordered him kept across the room.
Charles Denton opened the board session.
The company faced three immediate threats.
Possible environmental fraud.
Possible unlawful transfer of Lydia Whitmore’s shares.
Possible coercion against Evelyn to obtain Mercer land.
Melissa Ward moved to suspend Graham as chief executive pending independent investigation.
Arthur Sloane objected.
“The livestream does not establish corporate guilt.”
“It establishes that the chief executive signed a medical removal plan tied to a land transfer.”
“The papers were unsigned.”
“Because Evelyn stopped the ceremony.”
Lenora had taught them to treat failed harm as harmless preparation.
Melissa refused.
“The absence of a completed theft does not turn the documents into wedding decorations.”
The vote required six directors.
Three attended in person.
Four joined remotely after receiving the livestream.
One director did not answer.
Judge Thomas Bell, a retired state judge who chaired the Whitmore family trust.
His name appeared on Lydia’s old incapacity order.
The same man served as independent trustee over Graham’s shares.
He was also listed as an honored guest at the wedding.
His chair in the second row was empty.
Rebecca checked the seating photographs.
Bell had been present when Evelyn entered the aisle.
He disappeared before Lenora pulled the veil.
A camera showed him entering the east service corridor.
He never returned.
Detective Grant issued an alert.
The restricted archive contained a private exit leading toward the sea wall.
Bell may have escaped before police entered.
His absence changed the board vote.
The trust shares he controlled could determine whether Graham remained chief executive.
Arthur Sloane moved to delay the meeting until Bell returned.
Melissa objected.
“The person whose vote you want is now connected to a hidden confinement record.”
Charles proceeded with the directors present.
Graham spoke before the vote.
“This company employs twelve thousand people. Suspending leadership during a fabricated scandal could collapse financing.”
Evelyn answered from across the room.
“Employees do not need you to remain protected.”
“You have never managed a company of this scale.”
“I manage the land, trust, and environmental restrictions you tried to take.”
“You inherited them.”
“So did you.”
The words silenced him.
Melissa proposed an independent operating committee to protect payroll, contracts, and safety work.
The company did not need to choose between Graham and collapse.
That false choice had protected Lenora’s family for years.
The vote passed without Bell’s shares.
Graham was suspended.
Arthur Sloane threatened to withdraw financing.
Melissa opened the concealed contamination report.
“If Sloane Capital withdraws before the environmental review, the board will disclose every side agreement your firm signed with management.”
Arthur sat down.
Camille watched her father with disgust.
“You were going to let them send me away too.”
Arthur looked at her.
“What are you talking about?”
“The messages.”
She opened her phone and handed it to Detective Grant.
Graham had promised Camille that Evelyn would be removed after the wedding.
He also wrote that Camille would remain abroad for several months until the scandal settled.
Lenora told him Camille’s public presence would weaken the board.
Camille had been useful for humiliation.
She was not meant to become the new bride immediately.
The family planned to discard her after she served her purpose.
Camille read the exchange twice.
“You told me we would announce our engagement.”
Graham looked away.
Lenora had manipulated everyone through different promises.
Evelyn was promised marriage.
Camille was promised replacement.
Graham was promised control.
Arthur was promised profit.
None were intended to receive everything.
Lenora remained the only person positioned above them.
Police found another document inside the archive.
A prenatal management plan for an unidentified woman called Subject C.
The plan had been created six months earlier.
Subject C was pregnant.
Her child carried a possible Whitmore claim through Lydia’s line.
The ultrasound from the coastal room likely belonged to her.
If the child existed, Graham’s control of Lydia’s stolen shares faced another challenge.
Judge Bell had signed the medical confidentiality order.
His disappearance no longer looked accidental.
Detective Grant’s radio sounded.
An estate guard found Bell’s abandoned jacket near the sea wall entrance.
Inside was Evelyn’s missing wedding coordinator key and a handwritten note.
Do not allow Lydia to reach the board alive.
The note could have been written by Bell.
It could have been planted.
Then Rebecca’s transmitter received an incoming audio signal from the hidden archive line.
A man whispered:
Move the woman and the first child before the coast road closes.
Evelyn looked at Detective Grant.
“First child?”
