Chapter 6 - Noah Takes Control

Noah pushed open the armored vehicle door.
Evelyn caught his shoulder.
“Stay inside.”
“I know the emergency code.”
Richard heard him.
“There is no code.”
“My dad taught me.”
Daniel had allowed Noah to practice on flight simulators after the crash left him unable to walk. He told his son that controlling a machine did not require strong legs.
Noah knew the architecture better than Richard realized.
Detective Bennett moved him behind a reinforced barrier near the terminal.
Evelyn remained at his side.
The screen showed Charles’s plane climbing above the Connecticut coast.
The pilot’s voice broke through the radio.
“Ground control, we have lost route authority.”
Richard laughed.
“You cannot reverse it without Daniel’s biometric signature.”
Noah placed his medical bracelet beside the scanner.
The bracelet contained a small identification chip created during his father’s lifetime.
Daniel had embedded family access credentials in case Noah ever needed emergency transportation.
The terminal recognized him.
WELCOME, NOAH.
Richard stopped laughing.
Noah’s hands shook over the keyboard.
“Dad made a hidden control page.”
“How do you open it?” Evelyn asked.
“He used a question.”
A prompt appeared.
WHAT DOES COURAGE REQUIRE?
Noah whispered, “Not legs.”
The system unlocked.
Richard lunged toward him.
Detective Bennett fired into the floor.
“Do not move.”
Noah entered the emergency route command.
The aircraft stopped turning toward the ocean.
Its navigation returned to pilot control.
The radio erupted with confirmation.
Charles was safe.
Richard’s face filled with hatred.
“You think that makes you an heir?”
Noah looked at him.
“No. Dad did.”
Police restrained Richard.
Victoria was captured near the runway fence.
Rebecca kicked Marcus’s knee and pulled away.
He slashed toward her, but Evelyn struck his wrist with a metal fire extinguisher.
The knife fell.
Marcus was arrested.
For the first time since the mansion burned, every known conspirator was in custody.
It should have ended there.
It did not.
The files on Richard’s terminal contained records of earlier aircraft sabotage.
Daniel’s crash was only one operation.
Two Whitmore executives had died in separate aviation accidents.
A third vanished during a private flight over Canada.
Each man had opposed illegal defense contracts.
Charles’s company was built partly upon the removal of anyone who resisted Richard’s network.
Charles landed safely at a military airfield and was taken into federal protection.
He requested to see Noah.
The reunion took place inside a secure hospital room.
Charles looked smaller beneath the blanket.
He reached toward his grandson.
Noah did not take his hand.
“Did you know Dad’s plane was going to crash?”
“No.”
“Did you tell Richard to stop him?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Your father threatened everything I built.”
“So you chose the company.”
Charles closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
Noah’s expression did not change.
“You always said Dad died protecting me.”
“He did.”
“From you.”
Charles began crying.
It was the first time Evelyn had ever seen him lose control.
“I loved my son.”
“But you loved being powerful more.”
Charles did not deny it.
He signed an emergency order transferring his voting authority to an independent trust until Noah reached adulthood.
Evelyn was named temporary personal guardian under Daniel’s documents.
Rebecca became Noah’s medical advocate.
Detective Bennett supervised security.
Victoria, Richard, and Marcus were denied bail.
Investigators prepared charges involving attempted murder, arson, conspiracy, kidnapping, sabotage, and corporate espionage.
The mansion remained uninhabitable.
Evelyn and Noah moved into a smaller Whitmore guest residence overlooking Long Island Sound.
For Noah, it was the first house where every doorway accommodated his wheelchair.
There were no formal dining rooms.
No grand staircases.
No one introduced him as an unfortunate legacy.
One evening, Evelyn found him watching Daniel’s complete recording.
His father described the illegal weapons network.
Near the end, he mentioned a second archive.
The primary files exposed Richard.
The second archive identified the person above him.
Evelyn sat beside Noah.
“Above Richard?”
“He wasn’t selling the technology alone.”
“Who was?”
Noah opened the file.
It required a password Daniel had not explained.
A clue appeared.
THE WOMAN WHO SAVED MY SON BEFORE HE WAS BORN.
Evelyn stared at the words.
Noah looked at her.
“Did you know my dad before I was born?”
“No.”
“Then why did he write that?”
Rebecca entered the room.
When she saw the clue, her face turned pale.
“Because Evelyn is not your family’s housekeeper.”
Evelyn looked at her.
Rebecca continued.

“She is Noah’s biological mother.”
Continue to the next part: Evelyn learns the boy she rescued is her biological son, and Daniel’s hidden fertility records reveal how the Whitmore family stole him from her twelve years earlier.
