Chapter 22 - The Song She Gave Away
At twenty five, Lucia owned copyright interests in her contemporary choreography.
Evelyn’s composition rights had passed through estate structures partly managed by foundation.
Claire’s original falling star variation was held by Claire’s estate, administered by Adrian and later trust.
For years, every public use required paperwork.
Lucia hated it.
“This song survived because Grandma Rose taught it without paperwork.”
Daniel’s successor lawyer said:
“That is not legal argument.”
She laughed.
Then proposed:
Release an educational arrangement and core choreography under a broad nonprofit arts license.
Not commercial free-for-all.
But schools, community programs, and nonprofit studios could perform without expensive licensing.
Adrian agreed regarding Claire’s estate rights.
Mercer Foundation agreed.
I agreed for Rose reconstruction materials.
Lucia released:

The song that once proved blood became something children could learn without knowing our names.

Lucia said:
“You can be scared and still tell truth.”

Benign.
I told Lucia before biopsy.
She thanked.
No family pattern.

A little girl in wheelchair adapted falling star using arms.
Lucia watched online and cried.
She said:
“That’s better than secret.”
Yes.
Then she was invited back to Ashbourne Ballroom for twenty-year anniversary of Vale Foundation centennial? Timeline. Maybe not.
Instead at thirty, she receives offer to choreograph major Boston Ballet piece using family song. Big full circle.
She hesitates because commercializing. Then decides if terms include community license remains and credit. Fine.
