Chapter 2

The bedroom door slowly opened.
A young nurse stepped inside carrying a fresh tray of medicine.
She smiled politely.
"I'm here for Mr. Romano's next dose."
Nina immediately stood.
"No."
The nurse stopped.
"I'm sorry?"
"He's not taking another pill."
Marcus looked between them.
"Nina."
His voice remained calm.
"Explain."
She held up the medicine bottle with trembling hands.

"Someone switched the pills."
The room fell silent.
The nurse laughed nervously.
"That's impossible."
Nina poured several tablets onto the bedside table.
"I've been giving him this medicine every night."
She pointed at the prescription label.
"These pills are different."
Marcus walked over.
He examined one carefully.
His expression didn't change.
But something in his eyes did.
He picked up his phone.
"Dr. Harrison."
Ten minutes later...
Alexander's personal physician arrived.
He inspected the pills under a portable light.
His face slowly lost color.
"My God..."
Marcus stepped forward.
"What is it?"
The doctor looked at everyone in the room.
"These aren't fever medication."
Nina stopped breathing.
"What are they?"
The doctor swallowed hard.
"A powerful blood thinner."
He looked toward Alexander.
"In his condition..."
"Another dose could have caused massive internal bleeding."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Marcus slowly closed his phone.
"So someone intended for Mr. Romano to die."
The doctor nodded.
"And it would have looked like complications from the fever."
Nina looked toward the bedroom door.
Someone inside this mansion had planned everything.
The illness.
The medicine.
The timing.
Alexander suddenly coughed violently.
His hand searched blindly across the bed until it found Nina's fingers again.
Even barely conscious...
He reached for her.
Marcus noticed.
He noticed everything.
"Nina."
He asked quietly.
"Who had access to this room?"
She thought carefully.
"The doctor."
"The night nurse."
"The cleaning staff."
She hesitated.
"And..."
Marcus waited.
"The house manager."
Before anyone could speak...
The lights suddenly went out.
Darkness swallowed the room.
Someone screamed downstairs.
Then came the sound of running footsteps.
Marcus immediately pulled a pistol from beneath his jacket.
"Stay away from the windows."
The emergency lights flickered on.
May you like
The medicine bottle was gone.
Someone had stolen the evidence.
