Questions.

Then:
Evelyn believes $20k. I let her believe it. Cowardly, but I cannot watch her choose between children again.
I closed my eyes.
Thomas protected me from truth.

That sentence hurt.

Do not make Hannah permanent family police officer. She deserves a life.

I cried.
Then the orchard.

Developer inquiry at $5.2m. Declined.
2020:
Ryan angry. Says land should fund family.
Then:
Created Preservation Trust amendment. Hannah successor because she can say no to Ryan. Need independent fiduciary backup because Hannah should not carry this forever.
Not punishment.
Protection.
Then rehab trust.
Ryan must be given a path back or restrictions become revenge.
Thomas understood him better than any of us.
Then final entries before cancer worsened.
Melissa Grant.
I stared.
Her name appeared two years before Thomas died.
Why?
2021:
Melissa Grant approached at senior planning seminar. Seems competent. Ryan likes her ideas too much.
Another:
She suggests incapacity planning that centralizes authority in family caregiver. Declined.
Thomas had met her.
Then:
Melissa asked whether orchard can fund home care. Why does she know about orchard?
That question had no answer.

Ryan?
Maybe.
Then:
Check Northwest Legacy Solutions. New company. Melissa’s brother linked to Cedar Ridge zoning work.
There.
The connection predated Thomas’s death.
Cedar Ridge had been exploring the orchard years earlier.
Melissa’s brother Kyle worked as land use consultant.
Ryan may have learned development value through them.
Then final note:
If Melissa resurfaces after I’m gone, Benjamin should contact Hannah.
Did Benjamin know?
He searched his files.
Thomas never sent the instruction formally.
It remained only in notebook.
Then tucked into back cover:
Business card.
Melissa Grant.
Handwritten on back:
She knows more about Ryan’s first missing money than she admits.
First missing money?

Maybe.
Hannah went still.
“What if Ryan wasn’t alone?”
We pulled old business records.
One false vendor:
NLS Property Coordination.
Initials.
Northwest Legacy Solutions had not existed then.
But Melissa operated before formal incorporation as:
Northwest Lifestyle Services.
Same initials.
Rowan Appliance paid NLS:
$38,000.
For “property transition consulting.”
We had no property transition.
Ryan’s old theft may have included payments to Melissa years before the current scheme.
