Chapter 24 - The Watch Returns

At seventy seven, I had the Hamilton serviced again.

Then invited Brandon to lunch.

I brought box.

He stared.

“No.”

“What?”

“I don’t deserve it.”

“That isn’t why I’m giving it.”

He opened.

Inside was my note from his thirty eighth birthday.

A man’s name is worth more than what he owns.

Brandon cried.

“I destroyed mine.”

“No.”

He looked up.

“You told reporter I was your son.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because you were.”

“Are.”

I smiled.

“Are.”

He put watch on.

“Fits.”

I said:

“Good.”

No big speech.

We ate.
