Chapter 21 - What Happened to Brent’s Company
B.C. Development failed.
Not because I destroyed it.
The company had been failing before the yard.
That was part of motive.
Bankruptcy trustee sold equipment.
Paid secured creditors.
Then subcontractors pro rata.
Some employees found other jobs.
A foreman named Luis Grant called me once.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“I knew Brent was moving money weirdly.”
“Did you know it was mine?”
“No.”
“Then why sorry?”
“I stopped asking.”
That theme.
Silence.
He said:
“I thought it was owner stuff.”
“It was.”
Just not legal owner stuff.
He laughed sadly.
Luis eventually started his own small contracting firm.
Good.
Not everything attached to Brent needed collapse.
I hired Luis once, years later, to repair a shed roof.
I vetted contract.
He laughed:
“I expected eighteen pages.”
“Twelve.”
