Chapter 6 - THE COOKIE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT
The peanut exposure came from a bakery box.
Bellevue Artisan Bakehouse.
Order placed by Patricia.

Peanut praline cookie.
Not hidden.
Not mislabeled.
The box had a bright allergen sticker.
Contains peanuts.
Lily knew.
She refused.
Patricia told her:
“Take the medicine first.”
Lily said:
“Mom says I can’t.”
Patricia replied:
“Your mother thinks everything can kill you.”
Claire filmed.
The video had been deleted.
Police recovered it from cloud backup.
My daughter sat at Patricia’s kitchen table.

Uncomfortable.
Patricia placed one tablet beside a glass of water.
Then another.
“Grandma, it says one.”
“Your mother says a lot of things.”
Claire laughed behind the phone.
“Come on, Lily. Prove you’re not a baby.”
Lily swallowed.
Then Patricia broke off a piece of cookie.

Size did not matter.
Lily shook her head.
Patricia said:
“If you want to come to the lake club, eat it.”

My daughter wanted to go with the cousins.
She ate the bite.
Claire said:
“See? Nothing.”
The video continued.
Four minutes.
Lily rubbed her mouth.
Said her tongue felt strange.
Patricia:
“Anxiety.”
Seven minutes.
Lily coughed.
Claire:
“You always cough.”
Nine minutes.
Lily asked for her EpiPen.
Patricia:
“No.”
Then Claire stopped recording.
My hands shook so badly Laura took the tablet away.
Detective Brooks said:
“You don’t need to watch the rest.”
“There is more?”
Another clip began eleven minutes later.
Lily was crying.
Patricia held the EpiPen.
“You are not using this unless you actually stop breathing.”
Claire said:
“If we call an ambulance, lake club is over.”
Then Daniel called.
Speaker.
Patricia:
“She’s doing the throat thing.”
Daniel:
“Did you give her the pill?”
“Yes.”
Daniel:
“Then give it time.”
I closed my eyes.
My husband knew Lily was reacting after a deliberate exposure.
He still did not tell them to call 911.
Then school nurse Megan’s call came in minutes later.
She had been trying to follow up after Patricia removed Lily from campus.
Patricia told her:
“She is fine.”
Megan heard Lily wheezing in the background.
She told them again:
Use epinephrine.
Call 911.
Patricia hung up.
Then Claire texted me:
We handled it. Don’t make a scene.
