Chapter 8 - The Visitor beneath the White Coat

Hospital security reviewed every camera near the neonatal unit.

At two seventeen in the afternoon, a man in a white coat entered the medical records office.

His badge displayed Dr. Malcolm Hayes.

He wore a mask, glasses, and surgical cap.

The real Hayes remained in custody across town.

The man used copied credentials to open Daniel’s birth record, room location, and medical status.

He printed one page.

Then he entered the pharmacy corridor and placed the package inside an outgoing cart.

The camera captured his height and movement but not his face.

A second camera showed him leaving through an employee garage.

He entered a sedan registered to Harbor Integrity Group.

Aaron Vale’s brother’s company.

The vehicle was found abandoned near the train station.

Inside were gloves, a discarded medical coat, and a burner phone.

One message remained.

Infant secured legally. Physical transfer unnecessary unless mother cooperates with Cruz.

Diana read the line twice.

They were not planning to abduct Daniel immediately.

They believed a legal structure still gave them control.

Claire reviewed every trust connected to the baby.

The Sterling Next Generation Reserve had been frozen.

Eleanor’s protector authority had been suspended.

Julian’s medical rights were removed.

The prepared birth registration was invalid.

Still, another document could exist.

Seraphina’s wedding drive contained a folder marked Lineage.

Inside was an old Sterling family settlement agreement.

It stated that any first male descendant born to a Sterling executive became a beneficiary of the Founders Preservation Trust.

The trust existed before Julian married me.

Charles Sterling served as founder.

Upon his death, Eleanor became protector.

Upon Eleanor’s incapacity, authority passed to the senior living male Sterling.

Julian.

If Charles was alive, he remained founder and could appoint a different protector.

The trust held properties, private accounts, and family voting rights worth hundreds of millions.

It did not automatically control custody.

Yet the language required the beneficiary’s guardian to cooperate with trust medical and educational rules.

The Sterlings might use financial litigation to pressure me for years.

More concerning was a page added after my pregnancy became known.

Maternal fitness verification.

Any mother refusing family medical supervision could be challenged through a designated physician.

Dr. Malcolm Hayes.

The same doctor who created my false evaluation.

They had built a trust process where Hayes’s opinion could trigger legal action against me.

His arrest did not immediately invalidate the clause.

Claire filed a challenge based on fraud and conflict of interest.

Charles Sterling’s survival would make the matter more complicated.

A dead founder could not testify.

A living one could argue the trust represented his genuine wishes.

Diana entered my recovery room after midnight.

“We located Vale.”

“Alive?”

“Yes.”

Aaron Vale was found inside a hunting cabin owned by Margaret Reed’s cousin.

He carried cash, false identification, and a secure satellite phone.

Margaret was not there.

Vale refused questions until federal counsel arrived.

The satellite phone contained call records to the Caribbean clinic.

It also contained messages from Julian.

The dates began seven months earlier.

Julian knew his father was alive.

One message read:

Audrey is asking about the housing vendors. Father says keep her calm until the descendant trust activates.

Another:

Hayes will handle capacity if labor or stress creates an opening.

Another arrived on the wedding morning.

Warrants may move today. Complete consolidation before midnight. Remove Audrey from public view if necessary.

Julian had not acted impulsively.

He had direct instructions.

He saw my labor as an obstacle to a planned transfer.

He locked me inside the shed knowing the warrants might arrive and knowing his family expected me removed from public view.

When Diana confronted him with the messages, he blamed Charles.

“My father controls everything.”

“You chose to follow.”

“He would have destroyed the company.”

“You assaulted your pregnant wife.”

“I was protecting thousands of employees.”

The familiar defense.

Employees used as moral camouflage for personal power.

Diana asked whether Eleanor knew about the wedding order.

Julian looked toward his attorney.

“My mother knew more than I did.”

That could be true.

It did not make him innocent.

Vale offered cooperation after agents showed him the satellite messages.

He admitted warning the Sterlings about the warrants.

He manipulated my audit logs.

He ordered surveillance.

He created the false internal affairs seizure.

In exchange for consideration, he offered Charles Sterling’s current location.

A private winery in Virginia owned through a charity.

Federal agents raided it before dawn.

The residence was empty.

Medical equipment remained.

A meal was still warm.

On the wall hung a live security display from Sterling Ridge Estate.

One camera showed the wedding ballroom.

Another showed the storage shed.

A third showed my hospital corridor.

Charles had been watching everything.

Beside the screens sat a printed map of St. Matthew’s neonatal unit.

One room was circled.

May you like

Daniel’s.

Continue to the next part: Charles Sterling has escaped again, leaving proof that he has been watching Audrey and the baby from inside the United States.
